X-Treme 9mm 115 HP journey

I just checked a handful of my 9MM loads with X-Treme 124 Gr HPs and they are around .373 to .377 at the case mouth. The one at .377 just passed the new Wilson case gauge.

I would be curious what others are seeing on there reloads. When I run one in the "crimp" die all by its self I get a small amount of resistance from the die, no matter the case length. It doesn't take much to over crimp, and with the leverage of the press, we shouldn't feel much resistance there.

I've shot a lot of Extreme 115 RN bullets, but only did one set of test loads using HP38/W231.

I seat the 115 RN bullets a lot longer than you did for the HP bullet, I typically go 1.140-1.150". I'm not sure how much deeper you need to seat the HP bullet. The measured length of the XT 115 RN bullet is 0.552", if that helps. If you seat so the base of the bullet is in the same place, I would think you can expect to get similar performance between the two profiles.

The data I have for the 115 RN are as follows:

COL 1.150", CCI 500 primer. Mixed brass. Witness PS 9mm, 4.5" barrel.
HP38 4.2gn, 944.0 fps, 17.8 sd, 41 es.
HP38 4.4gn, 1004.0 fps, 20.5 sd, 50 es.
HP38 4.6gn, 1055 fps, 11.3 sd, 28 es.

I did not go any higher in charge since I was looking for a reduced recoil load for my wife's gun. All of the above loads cycled the gun.

I shoot for .377-ish at the case mouth. (Pardon the pun) I just went and measured some of my last batch of Xtreme 124 HPs and got from .376+ to .379. All except one passed a Wilson Pistol Max Gage. They all passed a Dillon minimum SAAMI chamber gauge. FWIW, I seat them at 1.090"+/- COL

Thanks to all who took time to help me with this problem.
Are you sure you need to go as short as 1.05"?
Not anymore ;)
but you can never tell, sometimes you just need to wait for the planets to line up correctly;).
Or the brain to line up the knowledge correctly :)
Try doing the seating and crimping in two separate steps until you are sure you have you taper crimp just right.
I like to combine seating and crimping, and finding that I was over-expanding has set me free, as well as freeing up another station on the LNL so I can use the bullet feeder AND my lockout die. Wallalong (& others) to the rescue again!

Thanks for that, Toprudder, my 9mm RN are all 124 grain’ers, but I’ll file it for the future ;)
I normally verify that the ogive is outside the case mouth by taking a sized case and placing it on top of the round I created. If there is no touching of the two cases, the the ogive is outside the case mouth.
That is cool... thanks!
I shoot for .377-ish at the case mouth.
Me too, now.

Pretty sure last time I checked my 9mm 115 gr loads mine were .376. I know I load them long compared to what I see others doing. I load 1.140 COAL with 4.5-4.6 gr of W231 and a CCI SP primer. These in this case are Berry's RN. I've run thousands of them.
