a 22-250 enough ?

As much as I will defend the 243 as a deer round it is my low end limit. I just do not like to drop much below a 100 grain bullet for deer. When you drive 55 grain bullets real fast weird things can happen and adequate penetration can become an issue especially on an angled shot. I'm not trying to say that a 22-250 "won't" kill deer. It will and if you kept your shots broadside and behind the shoulder you "might" not have a problem. But even on broadside shots in the ribs a 22-250 might not exit the other side of a deer and blood trails will be sparce to nonexistent if needed. Step up to at least a 243, 257, or 25-06.

When I carry a rifle afield I don't want to have to be as picky about shot angles as I am when I bow hunt.

"...the minimum caliber for deer is .222 rem..." Where?
"...one thing I know that many hunters use 223 and 22-250 to hunt deer and elk..." Deer with the right bullet, but elk? Proof? Legally? BS.
"...H&R so changing a barrel is no big deal other than..." Sending it to the factory for installation.

Isn't that more of a function of situation and intent? "Pot hunting" for meat in close-up brushy country from a stand is a whole different deal from looking for a decent rack in open country when walking across a good bit of countryside.

In the first case, it doesn't take much gun, generally. In the second case, more tends to be better.

What I'm saying is that when I carry a bow I accept the fact that if I don't get a good shot angle even though the animal is in range I will pass. It's just part of the challenge of bow hunting. When I carry a rifle I'm generally hunting big bucks and not in such a sporting frame of mind. I want something at least big enough to drive through a shoulder on a quartering to me shot if need be. I don't have that kind of faith in 55 grain bullets. Nor do I want to have to attempt neck or head shots which I do not care for either.

i had no intention of elk, bear. all i wanted to know if it would be good for any thing larger than a varmint , predator gun. i have not used it for deer or anything . any center fire .22 and larger is legal in arkansas. will i use it for deer not likely.
