If you're not familiar with the term "entropy", it describes the tendency of things to move from a state of order to disorder. This is what happens to your undergarments during daily use. You find yourself tugging and taking false restroom breaks to sort things out or put them back into a state of order. In my experience, this process is aggravated by a tightly cinched belt, and exacerbated by a hard object between your trousers and undergarments on one side. I have been wearing loose-fitting (but properly sized) boxers for a very long time, and the problem described finally taunted me one day too many.

In reaction, I picked up a little-known firearms accessory at Wal-Mart today: undergarments. That's right! This is a review on the undies!

The idea is simple: tighter undergarments should mitigate "undergarment drift" since they hug the body closer and have less opportunity to shift around than the loose-fitting boxers. I had the intention of switching to briefs for a proper home-brewed application of the scientific method but to my surprise, I discovered a crossover: boxer briefs. For $11 and some change, I was off to the races to try them out.

First impressions: EXCELLENT. No more chafing! If you look closely at the photo, you'll correctly observe that I'm heavy-set with a 44" waist. I realized I could trade the "slightly hotter" quality of boxer briefs for being able to walk around outside all day without worrying about the penalty of rash.

I've been home for about 30 minutes and have tried on all three of my IWB carry options (pictured) with the new accessory. So far, I think the switch is going to pay off for more comfortable and predictable all-day IWB carry than traditional boxers. I'll keep careful mental notes about how this works out over the next 4 weeks or so with the intention to post regular updates.

In the mean time, I invite more people to help with the project. It would be nice to get valid feedback from many different body types practicing daily IWB carry. If you wear boxers, switch to briefs and try it for a while. If you already wear briefs (or boxer briefs), try to switch to boxers to see if it's better or worse. Post your progress as you go.

Who would have thought mundane undergarments could be reviewed as a firearms accessory? ;)

OK, I read all that, shrugged, and then thought to myself if going boxers to briefs was good, panty hose might be even better.
sorry, you're on your own for the remainder of this experiment. I haven't experienced the same problems and frustrations you describe.

Under Armour boxer briefs, the kind they sell on a hanger, not in a box.

Under Armour "Hear Geat" sleeveless shirt as an undershirt.

Tuck the undershirt into the underwear.

It is like a comfy, cool, full suit of undergarments that will not move, munch, crunch or twist no matter what you wear on top of it, how you move, belt, etc.

I highly recomend it.

Malice, excellent feedback. I may try that next.

So far, so good with the current project. This is much better than before.

Damn........ if you carry all 3 of those at the same time, no wonder your butts getting chafed, and your shorts are in a twist! I'm just kidding, I carry OWB right now, but am in the process of deciding which IWB to get, will keep those skannies in mind.

I have always used boxer briefs and sleeveless t shirts in a "tall or long" size with my IWB carry. Works great as everything stays where it should.

My undershirt coming untucked was one of the things I hated about the Crossbreed holster. I had Eric at HBE make me a COM3 with smooth side out on the back. Problem solved. If your undershirt is too short it will still come untucked. I mostly wear Jockey undershirts now and I've never had a problem with them working loose. Never had any problems with boxers or boxer briefs.

I sometimes wear boxers, and I definitely understand where the OP is coming from. I've recently switched to boxer briefs as well and immediately noticed the difference.

I sometimes carry a G26 (aggressively stippled) IWB in a desantis open top holster, and until I switched to the boxer briefs instead of boxers, I had problems with "entropy" untucking my undershirt from my shorts resulting in slight (but quite irritating) abrasions on my side.

I like the underarmor idea too, though I haven't tried the shorts. (I have a couple underarmor undershirts. They are fantastic for this nasty Florida humidity)

My combo

Boxer breifs then bought long thin sleeveless t-shirts (AKA wife beaters ). I am a big guy 6' 4", 42" waist. Also wear suspenders then wear a t-shirt untucked. All cotton material. With an all leather IWB holster, all is very comfortable. Oh and I should mention I wear a very well made gun belt. I find that while driving my wallet is more of a discomfort. This is what works for me. ...........Joe
