I've been reading up on weapon retention tactics and suddenly it occurred to me that I might actually have an advantage as a southpaw using a right handed holster.

My logic is that if I kept my CCW in a right hand holster, and practiced draw and handling from that side, then I might actually have an advantage if (God forbid) I was ever in a weapon retention situation because I’d be fending off the bad guy with my left (stronger) hand.

I already have the advantage of having spent a lot of effort learning handle and shoot with either hand.

Wow, if I’m right I may cause a breakthrough in left side holsters for all you “righties” out there! :neener:

If you can practice your right hand and shoot as good as your left hand, I'd say go for it. I'm also a lefty but I rather stick with CCW in my left side..

How about CCW 2 pistol? Maybe a small back up gun on the right side would be nice ?:D

I carry my BUG on my weak side. For me the effort required to be just as proficient left handed would require more time then I have to train. So primary stays on my right.

The best thing to do is find a good trainer and go to school and learn some weapons retention techniques.

I am seriously thinking about a lefty holster. My wrists and shoulders are pretty trashed, and standard small of back, (Pistol pointing down grip to the left,) carry tweaks me painfully, but simply rotating the pistol 180 degrees, (Pistol pointing down, grip to the right,) feels quite natural.
