Here's my two old WWII era vets - not the greatest pics, but they're what I've got.

An all numbers matching K43 my dad bought back in the late 50's - a Walther from 1945.

My M1 Garand - May 1941 manufacture that was re-arseneled by the Danes in the mid 60's.

I doubt the two of them ever saw action against each other, but they sure look nice side-by-side on the rack!

I couldn't resist putting the "Dogs Playing Cards" in the middle.

So which one do you think is the superior weapon?

The k43 has a 10 round detatchable box mag and the garand has an 8 round en bloc clip. Seems like on paper the k43 might be better.

K43 is better IMHO. Given the shortcuts they had to make on it it's still as good as the M1 and better in some places.

My G/K43s shoot as well as my M1s and are just as reliable.

One of the biggest problems was the G43 gas system...it was too powerful. The rifle literally beat itself to death...once you tune the gas down they are pussycats.
