1: I've been looking for a few hours now and can't for the life of me seem to find anywhere telling me how to detail strip my ruger p345, anyone know where i can read/watch how to do this? I've fire upwards of 2000+ reloads through it so i figure its about time to do a real good cleaning of it.

2: I've read quite a few posts on the net about the disabling/removing magazine disconnect and I am thinking about doing since i shoot IDPA every month and am required to dry fire the pistol w/o a magazine in, which according to the p345's manual is a no no. Recently I've noticed that it sometimes takes a second pull on a round to get the primer to ignite. Its not a common thing maybe one in 200 or more rounds and its only happened in the last couple months. I am reloading, but there are 3 of us using the exact same reload and they have no problems with their 1911's firing it off every time the first time. So far its gone off on the second pull when it didn't the 1st. I've done the whole empty mag in gun and pencil down the barrel and when i do it the pencil comes up out of the barrel about 2 inches, but a lot of the posts i've found people's pencils are flying out a couple feet or more. Should I worry that something is broken or is the fact that the pencil is flying out @ all an indication that everything is fine?

3. I finally broke down and bought some night sights for it. question is how do i get the front sight off?

thanks for the help if any that is to be given. :)

thanks but i already know how to field strip it i can do it in like 4 seconds and probably with my eyes closed if i tried it. i can't find how to detail strip it so i can clean the firing pin and other internals out and see if that might be whats causing it to take a second strike

The 345 comes apart pretty much like the other P-series guns.

You need to remove the extractor to dismount the slide. It is held in place by spring tension and a lug on its' underside engaging a notch. Pull the extractor outward and forward to remove. This will free the safety levers to rotate far enough to remove and this will free the pin.

The firing pin safety is located under the rear sight. Slide it off and the offending piece will just fall out.

This isn't a perfect instruction set, but should be enough to get you apart.

I'm sorry but this is incorrect. It is quite different.

The P345's extractor is held in place by a roll pin inserted through the slide top to bottom.

In order to detail strip:

1) Look at the left hand side of the slide just forward of the safety lever. You'll see a little round pin.

2) Flip slide over. Pin is held in place by a spring. Push down on spring with flat screwdriver and slide pin out.

3) Slide spring out.

4) Remove left safety lever held in place by spring.

5) Remove right safety lever.

Then the firing pin and spring will come out.

In order to remove the mag safety which is a separate part from the firing pin block safety you'll remove the rear sight. Just make sure you remove the plunger and spring that's on the left hand side of the slide and not the one on the right hand side.

The few times I've detail stripped my 2 P345's I left the extractor in place. I suppose you could drift that pin out and pull it too. I've never done that though.

I'll warn you though. Getting that spring in step 2 notched back into that pin when you put it back together is more art than science.

It took me a half hour, about 12 or 13 attempts and much colorful language to get it to cooperate the first time. Give yourself some time for all this.

Or you may just be more artful than me and get it in one shot.

OOPS! I stand corrected....

Sorry for the incorrect info. Ranting is correct and I am sorry for the sticking of foot in mouth.

Worst part is....I have one in the safe but was relying on the memory (bad mistake) when offering the wrong intel.

Hope this didn't get the OP into trouble. Again, sorry for the mis-speak. (We were just talking about the difference between lying and 'mis-speaking. I guess it comes down to intent?)

thanks for the tips i'll have to try this later today w/ a couple of my buddies so maybe between the 3 of us we'll get it right :-D. another reason i want to detail strip it is because i want to clean under the loaded chamber indicator since i'm afraid i'll break it when i shove a pick under it to scrap out the gunk under it. for a while there there was so much crud that even with an empty gun the loaded chamber indicator showed loaded lol
