Instead of the kit build I originaly was going to do, I have decided to get a brand new SA58. The thing is, due to the instability of the imbecile politicians who we allow to rule over us, I figure I should get a brand new Fal since its hard to tell how many other opportunities I'll have to get a brand new Fal. My theory is, if another "assault weapon" ban is passed after a possible Democrat take over in 08, it will surely be permanent. For no other reason than to spite the politicians, I will be packing every useless but evil Klinton assault rifle feature on there that I can.

I have done a good bit of research, but I still have a couple questions. First, whats the velocity difference between the 16" barrels and the 21" barrels? Also, is there any way to get a decent folding stock without paying 350 bucks for it like I see advertised in SGN? I'll pay it if I have to, but cheaper in this case is better. And lastly, does anyone make a good Fal flashlight mount? I checked the surefire and B&T websites a while ago but never found anything.

The reason FAL's are available in quantity is because of the imbecile politicians. The law of unintended consequences at work....

Folders can be had, but you won't likely do a great deal better than $350. Actually, considering that DSA has a number of US made compliance parts in theirs, it's a pretty good deal.

The SA58 is an excellent weapon - wish I still had mine. I have recently been thinking the same way you are - maybe I should get another one while I still can. I don't have any #'s on velocities, but in my opinion the 21" barrel balances better, recoils much less and is quite a bit quieter than the 16". I am pretty sure you will love whatever configuration that you end up with, though.:)

Why don't you just get DSA's SA58 Para Congo?

The 16" vs 21" barrel debate will never end, sadly.

But you could just go with an 18" barrel. Split the difference.

That's definitely on my Xmas list, but I'll probably end up going the Tromix .308 conversion for less that half the price. :(

I love FALs, but the SA58s are just so damn expensive. The Para Congo is $2100! The STG58s are more reasonably priced, but then getting the Para folding stock + sights would still jack up the price to $1450. <sigh>

I think I'd rather get a plain model, and evil it up myself. I don't need duracoat, and I can always add a folding stock later. I am raking in money with my current job, but saving money by modding a plain model myself seems best.

Again, does anybody know where to get a Fal light mounting kit? Preferably one on a forward pistol grip by the way. Also, does anybody know how much it would cost to simply get multiple barrels?

You can get a folder for about $280 compared to the stand alone $380 from DSA. Get an ACE receiver block, the folder mech, and a stock. YOu'll still need the para carrier/spring setup from DSA.

You do understand that the barrel on the FN attaches to the reciever, correct? It's not all real hard to change them, but it is significantly more of a hassle than slapping on a new AR upper. If you're looking for a one time change, you ought to be able to pick up an extra barrel for less than $100.

DSA makes a rail handguard setup, which ought to take any standard do-dads you want to hang off the front end.

I do now. Thanks.

A bit more than that. For the Ace Folder you need these parts:

From ACE -

FAL Receiver Block $45.00
Folding Stock Mechanism $59.95
AKFX Stock $64.95

From DSA -

Para Top Cover $49.95
Para Carrier $94.95
Para Return guide tube and spring Set $25.00

That's $339.80 plus shipping from both ACE and DSA.

The complete DSA kit is only a little more at $379.95 and they also give you the lightweight alloy lower plus the Para rear flip sight.
