A Firsthand Look at the Killing Power of the Lowly 45 Colt

It appears less a demonstration of the killing power of the round and more of a statement on the accuracy of the pistol.

Ouch. Let's leave the poor inanimate Bisley out of the blame game here....it just shoots where it's pointed.

I feel that the OP violated one or more of the 4 Rules particularly #2; "Never point the gun at anything you're not willing to destroy".

Unless he's willing to claim that he was tired of that particular chronograph.:D

We need a new 5th Rule; "Shoot safe, chronograph lives matter":uhoh:

Too soon?

I've owned chronographs of one kind or the other since the '90's and more than one of them had a bullet trail across the top. But this is the first one I've ever hit right square in the nose!

There are two kinds of crono users, those that have shot their crono and those that will.

I've only creased one so far but I don't use it a lot. ;)

Well done, sir. ;)

I had a .44Spl Uberti Bisley for a short time and still can't figure out why I sold it. Been wanting a replacement ever since.
BISLEY REVOLVER 44SPC 4 3/4"

I've been wanting a Bisley for quite some time. I've already fired a couple hundred rounds through this one and am amazed at how much easier it is to shoot than the standard grip. By that I mean it seems far less sensitive to how it is gripped.

I guess it's true, not a matter of "if" but "when". :)

Worst I have done (so far) was a screen side on an Oehler, shot with a handgun also. I now have extra sides and tops for the screens. :)

Good shooting. It is a fine revolver you have. I love the round, but have no pistol for it. Use a roller and a M93. Haven't been chrony hunting with either yet.

Great shooting there! Awesome Uberti. Did I read correctly that you are shooting a 280gr RNFP? Wow, thats a chunk of lead. Are you casting them? Also, where are you getting the 263's? I cast but don't have a mold that throws them that heavy. I usually shoot a 255 Keith.

You read correctly, and I do cast my own. The bullet was cast from a Miha mould bought on a Group buy over on the Cast Boolit site. The mould is simply the .45 caliber version of the 429640 mould by Lyman.

The 263 gr. bullets were cast from an RCBS 45-255 mould. Cast from WW's they weigh around 263 grs. and have shot lights-out in three different 45 Colt SA's I've owned.

That's where I got it!

My friend and I was testing some loads using my dad's Chrony. He hit it with a 5.56 round and put a crease the whole length of the case. Didn't seem to bother it. I would assume that everyone will hit something if they use a Chrony long enough.

That's nothing. I was testing some new 300gr hardcast 45colt loads thru an old-version Vaquero and thought it would be a good idea to use my 95 GMC truck as a bench rest. Rested my forearms on the driver-side bed rim and took aim at a target, which I had set up on the opposite side of the truck, 20 yards away. The first few cylinders grouped nicely, but I had to rest the front sight deeper down into the rear notch than usual, due to the bullet weight.

The reloads were a success, so I thought why not bounce a lacrosse ball around the field a bit. Threw the ball just in front of my target stand 20 yards away and took the same shooting position and location. First shot made a hell of a clang for hitting hard rubber. That's when I noticed the nice hole thru the upper rim of the passenger side bed wall. Total idiot move on my part. The ball was lower, my sight picture atypical, and I ain't too tall, so the trajectory was predictable if I had given it any thought.

Now that damn truck had frequently given me cause to want to fill it full of lead, so I was sorely tempted to finish the cylinder into the engine block and call it a day. That's when sound judgement suddenly showed up for first time that day, and I decided to walk around the truck and finish shooting from the target-side of the bed. Long story short, the loads were a success, I learned to not shoot across my truck-bed, and my truck learned that I am nobody to be trifled with.

I got a lot of stares, and quite a few questions, regarding that bullet hole. To most I simply replied that I like to keep the bullet holes in my vehicles originating from the inside rather than the outside.

Thats nice but a 357 does an even better job of blowing up a Chrony. I know for certain because I have done it twice just to make sure. I am on my third Chrony now.

I did find out after I bought my third Chrony that if you will send them back to the factory they will sell you a replacement at a reduced price.

Welcome to the forum.

Beautiful revolver, but you don't need a big ol' heavy Ruger to break 1000 fps with a 45 Colt!
