A Good CCW Idea ?

A CCW permit holder I recently met told me about an idea he had to help avoid a potential problem if his firearm was accidentally exposed to the public.

He wants to make a color copy of his state's CCW permit (his original CCW permit will be kept in his wallet), have it professionally laminated, and then place the laminated copy of his CCW permit on a clip attached to his belt right in front of his firearm.

That way, he says, if for example his jacket his blown back by a wind gust, a copy of his CCW permit will be displayed right next to his gun and might then avoid any potential problems with the public becoming alarmed by seeing his firearm, etc.

He said another potential advantage to doing this was if he needed to use his firearm in a self-defense situation, he could grab this laminated copy of his CCW permit attached to his belt to QUICKLY show to the public and police he was a "GOOD GUY" instead of trying to locate under stress the CCW permit from his wallet.

I told him in my opinion, on first glace, it seemed like a possible good idea, but that I would post it on THR to get other opinions.

Any thoughts on his CCW permit idea -- pros and cons?

There also those ridiculous CCL badges that have no meaning, but could be carried to assuage the sheeple’s panic. Or any Security Guard badge for that matter.

Most people won't even see the card. They will be look at the gun the whole time it is in sight. A lot of people don't even know about CCW and laws around it.

Well, not trying to offend, just being honest. Tell him to check his local and state laws prior to making a copy of his permit. Second, there are other options to concealed carry that will hide a weapon better than hooking a large laminated card to your holster. Third, pulling the permit "quickly" to identify himself as a "good guy" to the police might be the last thing he ever does. Ten Bears

Geez, I like to think that it's not that bad.


Anyway, the OP's idea probably won't accomplish anything since anybody
who will freak out over a pistol grip isn't going to be calmed by license they had no knowledge of.

Also, I wouldn't want to show such a person a ID with my name on it,
just in case they are so unnerved that they go to the first authority in earshot
and proclaim, "So&So has a gun!"

Know your local laws and be able to explain them concisely and explicitly.
I've been meaning to print up KY's gun legislation to keep a highlighted
copy in my car, maybe think about something like that.
