I meant to post this friday but with all that was going on I forgot to before I left home for the weekend.

I actually did something I thought I would never do...and NO I do not mean keep my opinion to myself for a change. :D

I took my partner of 14 yrs to get his CCW permit.

I had bought that new S&W revolver and he said something to the effect of.."I guess you do not need the other one (Taurus 731) now." I said that I did not and why did he ask. He said he would like to keep one with him in the car while he is at work during the day and when he is downtown alone.

I was all for this since I had suggested it before and he kind of blew off the idea. I immediately took him to the range for his first day of practice with his first firearm of his own.

The bad thing was I also took my SP101 .357mag and let him shoot it too. He kind of liked it better. I told him that one was staying mine but he could carry it when we went camping or hiking and I would carry my .44mag revolver.

He can't carry it on him while working. He is a home health RN. He wants it mainly because alot of other home health RN's have had the problem of drug addicts thinking they carry the meds they administer daily on them when they travel. Which they do not. This doesn't do you alot of good though if they find you have nothing after they have attacked you.

My Girlfriend and I both have our Ct permits, I have my Florida and hers is on the way. The notion of her picking up a gun when we are at home, or anywhere that isn't a firing range is something she can't get past though... I love her but,,, :barf:

my wife is going for her class on sat (28th) she is a very good shot (better than me on most days) i highly doubt she will carry, but at least she can use my (soon to be our) pistols . technically/legaly she cant use mine for defense in our own home:fire: !?! 3 more years of new york:neener:

ps. fellow new yorkers dont forget to vote out clinton in november

Cool, i'm going to help my wife get her Washington CCW permit soon. Of course all it takes is some money, an application and finger prints.:D

I took my Oregon CCW course at Northwest Armory from Clint(from Crimson Trace), it was a great class and cost $35.

Both my Oregon and Washington permits come up for renewal next year. I've had the Washington one since turning 21(going on 14 years).

One of these days I plan on actually setting myself up to carry on body whenever away from home, it's just to much of a pain now.

Just out of curiosity, where did he take his class?
He did not have to take one since he is a WA resident. You just pay your money, fill out the form, get finger printed and in 30 days youhave your permit.

He is going to take the class at Fisherman's when it is next held though just for my piece of mind. Until then I am taking him to the range and teaching him what I can.

Where's the application being processed Penguin?

Mine was a bit more complicated as I'm a resident alien (need an alien firearms license) but I got my CPL in ~5 business days. On a Friday I went into the County Sheriffs office (Colfax - I'm in Whitman County.), was fingerprinted by my local LEOs brother (they are all LEOs aparently), handed my money to the clerk up front, she was very helpfull. The next week the permit was in my PO Box. Seem like plenty of people have them in my county.

Anyway good luck with the application, I'm trying to get my wife to get her AFL and CPL as she does go out late with her girlfriends.

Here it takes 30 days. I guess that might just be our local Sheriff's policy. it took me 60 days because of being a joint resident with Oregon being my primary.

I envy your position of having a partner who is proactive about self defense. My wife became significantly less anti after becoming a mother, to the point of even purchasing her own pistol, but it's like pulling teeth to get her to the range, and she has to be scared before she will even consider carry.

Congrats on being on the same sheet of music as your partner on this issue.

Hope y'all never need it.

I am flabbergasted at how simple the process is up here. Just waiting to get my WA state license before I get my permit. I had figured I would take whatever class was required, but now that I have discovered none is, I am at a loss for what to do for CCW training. I wouldn't mind some training in the matter, as I am pretty sure that Marine Corps ROE and use of force doctrine isn't the sort of training I need for civilian concealed carry. :)

Yes, it is very simple here. I am making him take the CCW course at Fisherman's next time it is offered. That way he can get his OR permit too and not have to leave the gun behind if he has to go into PDX.
