A few months ago, I bought a Canik TP9 Elite SC in Patriot Brown. I shot the pistol shortly after buying it. As I expected from the reviews, the pistol was reliable and accurate. Since then, I grabbed two extra mags and also purchased and mounted a Swampfox Optics Sentinel red dot as well as the Ironsides shield for it. The Sentinel is constructed of aluminum unlike the SIG Romeo Zero and cheaper plastic version of the Shield RMS; the Sentinel can be had for under $300. In addition to the sights aluminum construction, Swampfox offers an optional Ironsides which is basically a metal shield the surrounds the sight for even more protection.

This is the first time that I used a pistol with red dot sight. I sighted it in today using 11x8.5” paper mounted on pizza boxes. I took two shots from 10 yards while resting on a table. The two shots went high. I adjusted the sight and was on target, but favoring the right side by maybe an inch. I adjusted again and drilled the center with the remainder of the 15 round magazine. I then went to about 27 yards and fired a 12 round mag on a second piece. The group opened up a little, but was still acceptable. Included are photos of the two targets.

I was very pleased. I think it is a good combo. I have astigmatism and with my glasses there is only slight distortion of the dot. After sighting in, I practiced shooting from a standing position. I found that with the dot, I shoot a little slower, but more precisely than with traditional sights. I do like how the sight enables the user to see both above and below the target whereas because traditional sights sit on the slide, the bottom of the target is obscured by the gun’s slide.

I am excited to continue using this setup.

I like the Swampfox optics. I have two each of their Kingslayer and Liberty optics and a Sentinel. The Kingslayer's are mounted on 22lr pistols while the Liberty's are on Glock G19 and G17 slides and the Sentinel is mounted on my G43.

I also have one of Swampfox's Blade 1X prism and their Tomahawk 1-4 scope on two AR's. The rifle optics are on par or slightly better than Primary Arms stuff. I also like that the Swampfox reticle in the 1-4 scope is a little bigger than the comparable PA scopes.

And if you should ever have to use Swampfox's customer service, it is top notch.

And if you are active or retired MIL/LE, sign up for Swampfox's MIL/LE discount. It is well worth it to do so. The MIL/LE discount only works if you order directly from their website.

That’s good to know. I had to contact Swampfox because with the Ironsides, longer screws are required to mount. This makes sense since the Ironsides covers the top, sides, and bottom. Swampfox replied the next day (a Sunday surprisingly) and advised that i purchase their screw kit which has a bunch of screw sets of various lengths and thread pitches. That solved it and now I have lots of screws in case I want to swap to a different platform or need screws for future optics mounting. I have been pleased with their products and service so far.

Thanks for the info. I just got an SC for my CCW here in Maryland. Does the shield add anymore bulk? I guess I cannot complain, my previous CCW was my full size H&K USP. 40. Big hunk of steel to try an conceal. Thanks

Great shootin with your carry pistol! Not familiar with Swamp Fox optics.

I have had very good luck with Canik products. I have owned 3 and still own the SFX. Hard to go wrong as they are great products.

Well done! That Canik is one good looking pistol.

A dot is in my future… I’m just holding off hoping I’ll wake up some morning with 22 year-old eyes again so I won’t need one .

Stay safe.

When I was in the Marines I had 20/10 vision. I could hit an ant at 100 yards with my M16-A2. 30 years later I can still see far but need them dumb reading glasses (1X) for close up. Good thing Marines do not do a lot of reading :-0 I am getting a Green Dot Sentinel for my Canik SC though.

Swampfox makes some nice RDS. I’m getting two for my 22s for range and plinking. Probably some of the nicest glass and window out there.
