Red Dot on Glock 17 - need selection help

Having the sight mounted extremely low is, of course advantageous, but it is by no means absolutely required for you to have a positive shooting experience. The dovetail mounted plates are quite adequate, especially for determining if red dots really suit you. No sense cutting on a slide before you know how you like using the red dot. For me, unless I buy an MOS gun, I will be perfectly happy with the dovetail mounted plate.
 
I would think some MOS guns require mounting plates and some don’t.
Pretty sure the MOS system was designed to use an adapter plate to mount any sight...

Mine came with a package of four adapters that allow mounting of the most popular sights...

Without the plate, there are only two screw holes that don't fit any pattern of RDS that I'm aware of...
