I work second shift, so mornings are mine, not the company's. The weather, the honeydo list and my aches and pains were all amenable today, so off to PGC gamboled I.

The plan was to shoot a couple fast rounds of wobble. On arrival at the Wobble trap on Range 4, I noticed one other shooter.A young man in his 20s, he had an Express in the rack and a cigarette in his hand. While he finished his smoke, we talked.

I asked permssion to handle and shoot his Express. He granted that and handed me a couple Federal Red White and Blue shells. These have a portion of their proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior Project, a worthy cause. Ha had this one for a month. No wear marks, yet.

When I called for a pair, I hoisted the Express and smashed them. Explaining that some folks had reported problems with the Expresses,he mentioned sluggish extraction with the Fed stuff. So, I told him about steel based hulls and how to polish the chamber and minimize the glitch.

I also mentioned I had tried out maybe 40 Expresses and had one that needed something major done. Failure rate, less than 3%.

We then pulled for each other. He shot in the low 20s and so did I. The SKB O/U was my gun of choice today.

Obviously, his gun fits him. While I shot low gun, he shot with the butt in the pocket of his shoulder but the muzzle depressed to about 45 degrees.

I've not done well with that approach, but it worked well enough for him and I left well enough alone.

We talked, shook hands and parted. Nice kid.

And that's all that was needed. A good shotgun, some shells, and some clays.

What do you think?....

One thing I've definitely noticed is the lacking of younger shooters on the trap/skeet fields. When I show up, I am (by at least 20 years) the youngest person out there. Same goes for the rifle range.

Maybe I just don't understand how much fun videogames and staying indoors is ;)

Nice! I'm going out Friday and the weather had better cooperate! I can't wait to put some lead down range.

His method of holding the gun sounds like he was a recent member of the military, good job befriending him, Dave

BTW, have you used that A400 at PGC?

Thanks, folks.

Yes,Lee. Good company counts.

Re younger shooters, I've an appointment in a couple weeks with a Scout Troop.

Maybe 30 potential new shooters, and voters.

Back to this...

Frag, enjoy. Busting clays is much fun and good practice.

1 oz, I've maybe 600 rounds through the A400 so far. Now that I have the POI and POA together, it's busting them nicely. I may buy a case of RWBs and run them through it.

Every time I show a young person about shotguns, their eyes light up! They are amazed that they can actually do it for real instead of just with a video game! MAny of them thought it was illlegal until they are educated about firearms. You had a good mornign Dave. Glad you enjoyed it.

Every new shooter is another point of light in the darkness.

Every new shooter is a potential ally in keeping all of our rights intact.

Every new shooter is potentially someone willing to accept the responsibility of ensuring
their own and the public's safety.

We ALL are the militia.

And in this case, I did offer a little advice but no instruction. Just had fun shooting and watching someone having fun shooting.

Everyone should have mornings like this.....
