A little confused about the whole DC thing

Ok, so I understand the handgun ban being revoked and/or modified, but my real question is this: Can I have my Mossy 500 loaded and ready to rock for bumps in the night like I do here in Virginia or not? Or can I only have my pistol? If this was supposed to be in legal, I apologize in advance. I am going to be moving there soon, so I would like to know.

The Supreme Court said you can.
DC said "nah, forget what the Supreme Court said, you still can't".
It ain't over yet.
 
As of right now you can only have your gun loaded if you are engaged in self-defense at that exact moment. You cannot keep it loaded at all times. In September the D.C. Council will enact the permanent law. Also Congress is planning to vote on a bill to override D.C. law and allow for real self-defense. Hopefully the D.C. Mayor and Council will get the message and modify the law before it becomes permanent.

You have my condolences ... I just got out after having been in that area for 30 years. I also hope you are going to be pulling down 6 figures ... otherwise you'll be "living in a van down by the river".

Monuments and 4th of July fireworks are pretty though.
 
Given the size of the District and the consequences of living there (even aside from gun issues), why on earth would you not just live in MD or VA?

Because the commute is a B*tch. "Rush hour" there last a little more than three hours in the AM, then another 3 in the PM, and there is a mini 2 hour one centered on noon. Just one accident on the DC beltway or on a major highway pretty much means you ain't gonna get there on time, no matter how early you leave.

Rain there creates the same traffic problems as a foot of snow in most of the rest of the country. Snow there (or in some cases just the forecast of snow!) creates a traffic panic the likes of which you have to see to believe.

Shortly after I first got there in the late 70's, I remember having the radio wake me up, WTOP was on, and they were announcing all the schools and businesses that were closed because of the "snow emergency". The list just went on and on and on! I got out of bed and went to the window looking to see my first DC area snow storm....

I COULD STILL SEE THE GRASS!
 
Well I heard the whole thing on one of the podcasts I listen to and noticed that the Mayor and everyone else is power is incredibly anti-gun ("We are disappointed by the decision by the supreme court justices...") with their rhetoric about trying to keep the people safe. I should have my issue pistol at the ready at all time, hopefully working USSS, but I am more keen on the 500 for HD. We'll see what happens.

The only pistol you can use is a revolver and that is after it has been registered and molested by the PD. Any auto pistol is considered a MG in DC right now.

DC, the only place that makes feel free in California.
 
So pretty much I need to live in DC or MD but close enough that all I have to do is cross a bridge or be on the highway for less than a mile and I should be good right??

If you lived in Arlington or Alexandria, Virginia you are right on the border of downtown Washington and can drive or take the subway into the city in a matter of minutes.
