A lot of historical guns in the film "Defiance"

I just saw Defiance starring Daniel Craig, which is the story of the Bielski brothers who formed a partisan group in Belorussia against the Nazis and saved hundreds of Jews. The film has a LOT of eye candy for lovers of WWII era firearms, especially Mosins (of which nearly every character in the film uses at some point) and PPSh-41s. There is one great scene where they grab a bunch of rifles from some armory and a guy comes out with like 10 Mosin 91/30s on his back, all looking like brand new condition. Most of the partisans also use PPSH-41s and some, like Daniel Craig's character, have captured MP40s. Craig also uses a Walther P38 as his sidearm.

At one point in the film the Jewish partisans encounter the Red Army and some of them join the Russians. In one scene, a Jewish enlisted man tells of having been beaten up by two officers for using the officers' bathroom. Then later that same guy is shown with an SVT-40 while all the other Russian soldiers have Mosins. I thought the SVT-40 was only given to officers and special troops?

Yep, a good flick. I watched it two weeks ago and was glad to see how the Jewish partisans fought back.

Whatever guns they could find they used. Plus other armaments.

By the way if anyone's thinking about reading the IMDb forum for this movie...don't. 90 percent of it seems to be anti-Semites spamming the board with anti-Israel diatribes and claiming that the Bielskis were war criminals.

Re: SVT-40's. As I recall, they were issued in a similar manner as Mosins. Elite troops probably had an easier time requisitioning them, but they were still issued in numbers to line infantry. I recall something like 1 million SVT-40's were manufactured during WW2.

I had absolutely no idea the SVT-40 was that common. I thought it was some kind of elite rifle like the Walther G43 that was rarely used compared to the bolt action rifles of the time.

I was wondering if something that looked like PTK's Obreyz (sawn off Mosin Nagant "pistol") would be in this movie, did they have anything like that? Can't wait to see it.

I wanted to see it today, but my friend chose The Unborn instead. I *tried* to tell her!

It is very ironic and confusing how Daniel Craig and Mark Wahlberg can be so anti-firearm, yet all they do is action movies.

D.C. was great in Munich BTW.

That is just the standard hypocricy of Hollywood Progressive Liberals. It's called "Take The Money And Run."

Here's a Wahlberg quote, kind of odd, sounds not very well thought out.

Well, I would love it if they could take all the guns away. Unfortunately, you can't do that so you hope that good people in the world have them to protect the people who can't protect themselves,'' he says.

"Certainly, I haven't used a gun anywhere other than on a movie set and I'd like to see if we could take them all away. It would be a beautiful thing."'

I just went to see it today!

Excellent movie, many nice guns and a one of the best movies supporting the RKBA I've seen in a long time.

This is definitely a movie I'll will add to my dvd collection when it comes out. I would put it right up there with Enemy At The Gates as one of my favorite WW2 movies to date!

Again I would say that as far as pro-gun movies go this one earns extremely high marks.

I think he means "we" as a society. I think that this statement is very subtly pro-gun. He points out that it would be great (pantering to the anti's because he cares about his career) if we could get rid of all guns. But he also makes sure that it is clear that he doesn't think that it would be possible.

I think that this is a pro-2a statement in disguise. I believe what he is trying to say is that if it was possible to get rid of guns all together, then gun control might be effective... but it's not possible to get rid of guns all together, so gun control doesn't work. And since the bad guys have guns, it is good that good people have guns too.

I really think that he is just trying to make what sounds like an anti statement that is really a pro-2a statement in disguise. It's clever, really.

expvideo, he mentions protecting "the people who can't protect themselves," which to me suggests a "benevolent government" type of idea.

FOURTEEFIVE - "I don't think they made a movie out of the Warsaw uprising yet ."

Yeah, they have. Several years ago.

The "leader" of the Warsaw Jewish fighters was played by some wimped out actor who had been a regular on the teeeveee series, "Friends." Can't remember his name.

More of a soap opera than a "resistance" flick.

That tv-movie of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising was really horrible. David Schwimmer is a dork and it's totally beyond me why they picked him to play the leader of the uprising, other than the fact that he is Jewish (but really - it's not like there's a shortage of Jewish actors.) Really lame movie. I hope they make a "real" one that has a better story and is more realistic.
