A Mauser. Some 45acp. Why?

Okay, there's nothing a little .45acp won't cure.
And lets face it, a Mauser is fine, too.

But why would I potentially want to combine the two into a bolt action, 45acp carbine? Now granted, it does harbor a certain menace, but I'm still somewhat mystified.
This is a rifle for those of you who want a quiet rifle with a bit more power than a 22...
:scrutiny:

I'm thinking this falls under the "because I can" catagory?

Interesting. The .45 shares the .473 Mauser bolt head.

I am more interested in the fact that he is using an adjustable barrel locking ring a la Savage on a Mauser!

Maybe you haven't heard of the Delisle carbine? These were Enfields converted in a similar way with built in suppressors for covert use in WWII.

Personally, I like the idea of the 45 ACP cartridge in a lightweight carbine. A Mauser does NOT fit that description. I envision something like the Winchester Model 92. Lightweight, easy handling and a lot of cartridges in the tube.

I have a .45 ACP Enfield No.4 that I load .45 Super for. Lots of fun to shoot and very accurate to 100 yds. I would say it's useful for a good many things.

I could see a bolt action pushing some very hot loads out the barrel.
Think a mauser would eat some 460 rowland since 45 super is on the table?

Is the Rowland cartridge loaded to higher pressures than a 300 Magnum? Mausers are often seen chambered in that cartridge.

Like jonnyc I have a Lee Enfield converted to .45ACP. It is the perfect gun for suburban pest control in that it is accurate, quiet, powerful, and the bullet won't careen off for a mile or so. I also use .45 Super brass to separate its hotter loaded ammo from my .45ACP pistols. The Enfield conversion was very simple and easy to do as I already had the stripped action. Removing barrels from old Mauser actions can be difficult.

i converted a remington 580 from 22LR to 9X19 and fit it for detatchable single stack destroyer 9X23 mags. the entire package (with scope) is under 5 pounds and 34" length. pistol rounds from rifle length barrels are very quiet and uber lethal on 75 yard groundhogs. 9X19 115 grain makes 1250 from a 16" barrel and hits with 5X the energy of a 22LR, 3X the weight, and lots of diameter difference. this garage gun shoots into 2" at 100 yards all day long. would work on things bigger than groundhogs, i'm sure. a can would help make it quieter...

It's an interesting idea, and IIRC the Spanish "Destroyer" carbines were based on Mausers. But I'd want something like a .454 Casull. The acp is kinda limited in capacity.
