A Model 10 on Steroids

My intro to the .41 Magnum came via the Sunday Funnies. They appeared in the Dick Tracy Comic strip and IIRC there was even one of the little crime stopper panels (as a kid I pasted those into a note book for a year or so) devoted to this "perfect" LEO revolver.

Lot of LEOs carried N frames back in the day. For a bit an N frame M28 Highway Patrolman was the issue revolver of the Georgia State Patrol. The original private owner( GSP officer took the option to buy his when the new guns got issued) of my M28 that was moded to .44 Special (hey, we thought we would never see M24s again and 28 were common) claimed the N frame had more knock down power than the K frames. When confronted with the numbers that showed no difference in velocity with the same loads he claimed that was not his direct personal experience....."Why you come out'a the holster with that old Highway Patrolman and lay it long side some (derogative term involving important spincter group inserted here)'s head and he goes down. With those little K frames you most always gotta follow through with a backhand on the other side! Sometimes you even have to hit them again!"

.......O....K.....

For $475 you did good. That gun would sell for $200 more on GB. The 40 S&W was what the 41 mag police load should have been. I have owned three 41 mags but never took to the rounds as much as a 44 mag in the same size gun. But I would have bought that gun in a flash for that price and it would be my new HD gun.

May you enjoy it and may it bring you many happy shooting times. The 41 Magnum is just one of those calibers which has tempted me for decades and I never got one. I figure now at my age I never will. Enjoy! :)

Oh, I was going to pay full price. I won't let $25.00 or maybe even $100.00 stop me from buying something I want. Normally I don't even mention how much I paid, but the last 58 I saw was tagged at $750 and sold in a couple of days, so I knew I was on pretty solid ground with this one. It's not a matter of the dealer not knowing what they had either. I've noticed some softening in the revolver market around here lately. Combine that with a sort of unpopular caliber, and the Pachmayr grips, I suppose they just wanted to move it along.

That’s exactly how I got my 30-1. I literally saw them walk it out of the back to the case and I put it on layaway that very day. They had it priced to move because it was an oddball...3”, gutter sight, pachmayer grips, 32swl...not the snub 38 that everybody wants. I asked what bottom dollar was and got it a few bucks cheaper “out the door”. They absolutely knew what they had, but they knew it was a tougher sale than others and they took my money when it was offered. I could not have described any better what I wanted either except for factory grips and factory box...but that would probably drove the price out of my comfort zone.

My very first carry gun. Security, before I became a cop. Wanted blue, only found a nickel one. In the box. $165. 1978. Carried it for a few years.

Still have it. In the box.

The lead load was fantastic and, that nickel gun in a Don Hume Border Patrol holster looked damned good. We worked conventions and trade shows in Dallas and had western styled uniforms and badges. It was exactly what tourists expected to see. I’m sure I am all over family albums in Japan.

The semi jacketed load? No bueno. That was the most miserable gun and load combination I ever shot. If it hurt half as bad on the receiving end, I’m sure it was effective.
