Hey Guys just another day of reading something at work and I stumbled across a rather interesting article about a Steyr Model M.

The newspaper "Shotgun News" Vol. 62 - Issue 7 (Shotgunnews.com) wrote a 3-4 page (pg12-17) article about the Steyr's Model M writen by Peter G. Kokalis.

I hope that some of you will check this article out, especially those of you that have this model.

My opinion is that this article points out alot of bad things about said weapon, but I can only wonder is the things mentioned (like: misfeeds for one) are due to the environmental conditions and maybe the lack of proper firearm Hygene. Either way this article is definately steering this shooter away from that model of Steyr and if I find more like this then probably Steyr all together.

BTW please don't feel that I am attacking any of you or your personnal choice in weapon. For the simply fact that I don't even know which of you owns one. this is just a personnal preference thing, but more so it's an inforamtional thread so others can see what is out there.

I probably should have asked a question to keep this thread alive.

What do you guys think about the Steyr's model M or Steyr for that matter??
 
Funny you post this thread. I read that article today. I have held, but never fired a Steyr M series. I therefore have no personal experience with them. I do know a guy who has one, and he says it functions fine.

Environmental conditions certainly may have played a role, but if a gun cannot function in the field, it's useless for Operators. The guys in the article were bodyguards, so they NEED a gun that will work.

I fired a friend's Reising submachine gun at the range a few years ago. It functioned perfectly for me, and was very pleasant to shoot. It would, however not be the first choice for me if I needed an SMG to depend on.

I have not seen the article in question, but I do have a Steyr M9. I got it because I liked the ergonomics of the design, the manual safety in the trigger guard, and for the trap sights. The only problems I've had with misfeeds were some slightly out of spec handloads that I was trying to use up. Other than that, and finding the high cap magazines, the guns been good to go for me.
 
I had an early Steyr M in 9mm that I really liked and in retrospect I wish I had not sold it.

It was solid, never malfunctioned, handler recoil easily and the sights were magical. It was a great ambi gun.

Shame they got a bad one... but I never trust gun rags anyway. If I did they only guns I would ever own would be Para's, classic S&Ws and Ed Brown's.

All too true. This is why I love this web site. I can hear it from the real people and not just some (No Offense) "Desk Jockey" Author that sat there for god knows how long and watched people shoot instead of get his/her purtty lil hands dirty and fired the darn thing themselves.
 
i have a steyr m40-a1 it is 100% reliable ,eats anything i feed it,fits my hand perfect, shoots better than my cz 75 , hipower ,1911 ,xd 45 , 1006, i really like my steyr.
 
I have 4, 2 older models (M40 and S9) and 2 A1s (M9A1 and M40A1). I can't seem to miss with them and they eat everything I feed them...
 
I have a M9 that has been 100% reliable through thousands of rounds, and I'd buy a M9A1 in a heartbeat, if it had the same manual safety that the M9 has. :(

Well that's what I thought you'd guys say. I can only assume like I said that they environmental conditions and poor hygene were to blame. Not only that but I also mentioned that the author probably didn't even shoot one of the Model M's either. So case in point, The Steyr is a go. thanks guys

Not really my business, and I am sort of new here too. However, I don't think threads ever get locked or deleted just because they are old. Some people like to search for old threads, rather than ask the same questions over and over again.*

It's okay my friend I just keep a personal time limt on my threads and if no one reads them I just have them locked for the fact that it would be worthless to have it just sitting there collection dust. I do believe that locked threads eventually get deleted after a certain time, if this is anything like some forums i have been a member of.

I shot the Steyr in 9mm last year when they showed up at the range last year. The accuracy & reliability seemed okay over 500 rounds but that triangular sight Bah-lows!
 
I owned a Steyr S-40 that initially had some issues,but they were fixable.I regretfully sold it to fund another gun I "HAD" to have,and I really wish I still had it.I currently own an older M-40,it's been flawless since I bought it new...
 
Kokalis made his name back when he was younger and actually went places and did things.

Nowadays, he's just another (former) big name on staff to sell product. He (and the other gun rag writers) write what they're paid to write.

I have an original Steyr-M in .40 S&W and a M9-A1 and not had a lick of trouble out of them.

I've noticed that you ask for your threads to be locked after you feel they're no longer of interest to you.

That's your privilege, of course, as long as there are moderators who are willing to spend their time to serve you. But it seems an awfully self-centered way to use an international forum with a great many thousand other members. The focus is always on you and what you want.

For that reason I've just about stopped reading the threads you start. From the lack of interest shown by other people in this thread it might be that others have come to the same conclusion.

After receiving "The Sermon on the Mount" for making a much less innocuous comment to the OP, I think you may be on to something.
 
The search tool isn't always that great for me, especially whenever I try to search anything CZ, it gives me the "under three words" message.

The search tool has caused me to post at least three threads recently that I probably didn't need to.
 
It is my understanding that the advanced search word limit has been fixed so that it is two instead of three.
