a New Anti-Anti tactic? Thoughts please.

After sitting in a state committee hearing on a magazine ban (does not look good but we are not giving up ) I was forced to listen to the relatives murder victims. One of their tactics was to have people hold on their lap 8X10 glossies of their murdered relative as they sat and waited. This sends a very loud message.

What if we (the pro gunners) had some 8x10's of some of Olegs works and quitly held them in their hands?

I'm new at this legislative lobbying so have no clue if this is a good idea or not.

Would this be against rules of order, etiquette, or what not?

Everything is fair in politics until a judge tells you that you can't do it. Then you get MORE publicity from it.

I'm not so worried about the judge as 1) the building security ( after a active shooter a few years ago they are "touchy" 2) even more important I do not want to annoy our sponsors or hurt our cause.

An inquiry has been made, no response yet. Looks like I will not need it till next year (I think IL politics are very convoluted.) which would be good gives me time to choose the best of Oleg's work or I may make my own images, customized for IL (While nowhere near Oleg's level of aesthetical mastery, I used to be a professional Medical Photographer) while "borrowing" some of Olegs ideas.

If anyone has any experience with this sort of thing please let me know.
If they tell me "no" on the signs, I am going to get a 6" (or bigger) "Button Maker" I know buttons are allowed.

Be interesting to confirm if they actually are holding up pictures of their own family members, or just pretending to be related. Sensitive questions like, "what was her middle name?" or "where did she go to school?" "what were her extra curricular activities?" could be slipped into conversation without seeming to be of malicious intent.

Do not know how it works in other states but in Springfield we were warned NOT to debate that Anti's or their witnesses, that the best thing to do was not to have any interaction with them.

(Sorta, kinda, took some of the fun out of it for me, I love to debate and poke holes in irrational arguments.

In a public forum like that, if you "win" a debate using cold hard logic against emotion, you are perceived as being "mean."

What doesn't make sense to me is the whole magazine capacity argument to begin with. It's a well known fact that there is no correlation between death and magazine capacity. A person with a single shot pistol can be just as deadly as a person with a hi cap 9mm. :banghead: It all comes down to shot placement.

ask them how many times the person was shot. It's a debate about magazine capacity. "_______" was shot twice, why would it make a difference if the capacity of the magazine was over or under ten? Or if someone was shot 30 times, would they be any deader than if they had been shot once?

Oleg's imagery may help, but what about images of folks who were actually "saved" by the use or brandishing of a firearm instead. With obvious big and bold letters to state, "A firearm saved my life" or similar tagline on the image.

Front page color picture of a gun, any gun, and the words under it:

Then the first article inside would be a picture of a Car, any car, and this/our new magazines stance that CARS KILL, therefore, NO MORE CARS, and let the Anti gun zealots cry "FOUL, it's not the CARS fault, but the DRIVERS"

Otherwise, by their own design/thinking, take away the guns, stop the manufacture of them, it will solve these senseless, unneeded deaths, because of the gun itself. Well, same deal with "take away the cars", "as they must be the killers as well.."

Then we turn to the next article of Agreement:

Guns don't just fire on their own, as do cars just drive on their own but, what both have in common is Mankind, be them drunk, irresponsible, desperate, just mad at the world, speeding, not obeying the traffic laws, or not really paying attention.


Next Article, take care of those that "abuse" these items, made by mankind, that in MOST cases, do mankind good, as opposed to bad.

The real problem, with any problem, is MANKIND, not the gun, nor the car, nor the alcohol, nor the drugs, but mankind's "choices, good ones, and bad ones."

Cars can, and do, save lives, as do guns, in the right hands and, just the opposite in the wrong hands.

That's how you fight fire with fire, directly negating their dubious point. Or better yet, t-shirts that say "Ask me how a gun saved my/my Dad's/my Mom's life."

Sounds like a good idea. I am pretty new at the whole Second Amendment activism thing, but can anyone sit in on a state committee hearing? I wouldn't mind doing that down here in Texas.

Texas, I do not know for your state.

Check with the TSRA or some other Texas 2A org, last resort would be the Texas .gov wweb site.

I've heard of many people doing it in different states but each state has it's own laws/rules.

I would suggest getting in contact with someone who knows your states systems and players. I was not surprised to be able to sit and listen. I was shocked that I could have submitted a written statement if I had had it prepared. (If only I had known). Several times we've been instructed to do things that make no sense (Go sit in this committee hearing on livestock regulation for as long as you can. OK, will do turns out a wavering senato who was expecting an empty committee room hearing had a packed room many of whom wore specially printed yellow T-shirts that read "Illinois Gun Owner Lobby Day". It was an effective tactic to domonstrate opposition to the bill but I would never have been able to participate without guidance.

Drowsy drivers kill. Smaller gas tanks can stop the slaughter.
