Today started like any other day, except I was off of work, and I needed a new Hi-Power, my first Hi-Power, certainly not my last.
I bought the SFS model because I have rather large hands and every other Hi-Power I have handled has bit the fire out of me or pounded my paw mercilessly. Alas, I thought I had been forsaken the pleasure of owning one, but then I met the SFS and a light shown out of heaven, the angels sang and the trumpets rang.
I bought 150 rounds of Blazer 115gr. Ammo and a handful of +P125 gr. Hornaday TAP and off to the range I go. After warming up on a “bulls eye” target I shoot a silhouette target at fifty feet, the gun shoots excellent so I decided to get a little cocky and bring the target up to 21-25 ft. and shoot off hand, modified isosceles, one shot per second approx. and the results are attached. What you see in the image is 28 rounds through the scoring chart of a B27 silhouette. Note the smallness of the target, the only reason they are not ALL in the same hole is because I was shooting kind of fast and was getting carried away (showing off). Had I taken measured shots, this gun could probably keyhole all 28 rounds.
Pros:
The gun is lighter than I expected.
Great trigger.
Have you seen an SFS safety? It’s got to be the coolest thing I’ve ever owned.
Accuracy is phenomenal.
Sights are pretty good in a lit environment.
Reliability was 100% even with mix matched ammo.
Cons:
The gun got hot. I mean my finger is still sore from that hot trigger. I did shoot about 160 rounds or so in 15-20 minutes, I’m just not used to a gun getting hot like that.
This is a quick range review. Once I’ve had time to really wring out the gun a full report will follow.
BTW….I put a second one on layaway, this one in matte finish. It’ll probably become my carry piece while this one becomes my “Sunday go to meeting” piece. Gorgeous bluing.
