A new trend? Conservation groups avoid "hooks and bullets."

It seems like this is getting to be the norm these days..many "conservation groups" are becoming progressively less pro-hunting.

The Outdoor Writers Association has had a falling out with the NRA over this, and many of their members are unhappy to the point of resignation.

The Sierra Club seems to be working hard at this, along with some other groups.

Is this a trend anyone else has seen? This could have serious impact on shooting sports.
 
The Sierra Club went green/leftist many years ago. The OWA is disturbing though. And just when I was looking into membership. Not now.
 
Yep, they've been green forever, but now it seems as if they're trying to influence other groups policies and politics, which is where it gets scary, since many of these groups are the very ones that have always promoted hunting and other shooting sports.
 
A lot of clubs seem to be refocusing their "protection" to hiking, mountain climbing, and camping to the exclusion of hunting and fishing. It seems that that the other outdoor activities are getting more popular and politically powerful. And for some reason it seems that they want the whole outdoors to themselves.
 
Sierra Club's been painting themselves into this, and other, corners for years.

Here in PRNJ, the Democrats have been shafting SC blind, yet they'll still endorse the Dems no matter what. The way I see it, the Dems do not have a monopoly on conservation, nor are the Republicans genetically predisposed to evil. (In fact, the Bush administration has been taking the PRNJ Democrat machine to the woodshed for well-deserved spankings on a couple of environmental issues.)

Squabbling weakens the power of both factions to accomplish their common, worthwhile goal.

These are people who have a desperate need to feel superior about themselves despite their lack of accomplishment in any area. This group is like a lot of Christian groups. They excel at being nice. The nicer you are, the better you are. Hunting isn't nice, so they get to look down at you. I refer to this as "militant niceness." They're going to be nice to you so that they can prove how much better they are than you.

These people are a sick abberation. They're not concerned about the well-being of animals and nature, and their lack of understanding about either is clear evidence of this.

Most hunters want the wildlands to be there for their ancestors. Hunting or fishing is such a part of them that losing that land would be like killing a part of themselves. Organizations like Ducks Unlimited are one way that these people help insure their inheritance. Others simply buy their own land and care for it.

OTOH, most environmentalists live in cities and talk about how they love and care about nature. It's amazing how hypocritical most of these people are. They don't eat meat or hunt, but they own two Ford Excursions. They complain about air quality but fly 4,000 miles every year for vacations. A co-worker was always complaining about people not caring for "mother earth." She finally shut up when I pointed out that the brand new house that she moved in to used to be part of 100 acres of woodland just two years ago. Like I said, they don't care about nature, they just want to feel superior.
