I had a couple of 223 rifles I wanted to get sighted in as I had changed scopes on both so I arrived before sunup. The wind is at it's lightest then usually and it's cool plus I'm nearly always alone. The weatherguesser had predicted south wind of 5-10 mph but there was a slight breeze coming from due west this morning but I considered that a good thing as I would be shooting directly into it. By the time I got set up the slight breeze had turned into 15-20 mph wind. I went ahead and got both on paper at 100 yards but something is crooked on one as I ran out of adjustment on both directions and am still a little high and a little right. The other was fine. Due to the wind I packed up and came home. When it gets to shaking me around and I have to weight light things down it's time to quit and wait for a better day.

One of the early S&W M&P's. This is the third scope I have had on it and did not have a problem with either of the first two. I did change rings with this one--twice. It worked fine with the first set which were just a little too low but not with this latest set. They are Weaver steel quad lock extra high rings and I have never had a problem with that brand of rings. I'm going to pick a day, go to the range with plenty of this rifles favorite load, and switch things around and see what happens. Since the problem only appeared with these rings I'm thinking they are the problem. I'll get it figured out.

There have been multiple times that I have gone to the range to do load testing and the wind has just been blowing to hard to come to any conclusions. I learned a while ago to always take something else with me to shoot so I don't ruin a range trip.

With the accuracy of the people who guess the weather I always take a pistol or two so if I can't shoot the rifle(s) due to wind it's not a wasted range trip. And if my wife gets to go it's better. I love helping her with her range time. She is a great shot but she still needs a confidence booster once in a while.

Wind can be great for training, but it can be a pain when you're trying to get things dialed in with a new scope setup. Something obviously isn't right if you've run out of adjustments when zeroing at 100 yards.

I took along my G2 Contender which also had a brand new scope on it. I had no problem at all getting it on target and where I wanted it to hit at 100 yards after putting the AR aside. It is tiresome fighting the wind even if it wasn't much of a factor in accuracy as I was shooting straight into it. I had a rimfire rifle that I intended to do some ammo testing with a after finishing with the center fire guns but decide I would just be wasting the ammo and quit shooting. The problem with the AR is either the rings or the scope as that is all that has been changed. I have some spare time this morning to work on finding which it is or it could be a combination of both.
