Hi guys, I posted this on the S&W forum but the Mods over there felt it was offensive to the company, I guess, so they dumped it. Here goes.
Today after shooting my 22A, 22cal pistol, I found that the lever that locks the action back, after the last round in the mag or manually also, was not doing the job. I have about 500 rds through it, BUT today I had two weird things happen. Once the round fired but the 2nd round jammed. I looked and the 1st round had tried to eject but it was stuck in the action SIDEWAYS, I cleared it but a few rounds later the same thing happened, but this time the round in back of the sideways one, fired splitting the case so there was two in the action. I am thinking of sending it back to S&W but did not want to bother them for something small or fixable by me. I looked at my wife's 22A and there seems to be a step on the lever to hold it back, MINE HAS NO STEP. What do you think??? Thanks Bob

It sounds like you're describing what is called a "Failure to Eject" - FTE or also called a "stove pipe". It also sounds like the slide stop lever wore down, but to the best of my knowledge a non-functioning slide stop lever shouldn't cause FTEs.

Can you post pictures of what you're describing?

I'd send it in. S&W will fix it. They also may send the slide stop in the mail for free.

The thing is though, they dumped the 22a and replaced it with a totally new design for a reason. It has always been a relatively problematic model.

After you get it back I'd sell it but that's just me.

Change your ammo and Clean the gun. If it's dirty that's only one of the problems you will encounter. I've been running Federal Auto Match with no problems. I lent my 22a to a friend and she used cheaper ammo.

I had to clean the gun after she told me it was jamming. A good cleaning and now there are no more FTFs.

I have a 22A, and while fun to shoot, it's picky.

As AzShooter1 said, clean gun with Auto Match (no that we can be picky with 22lr these days!) and it runs fine.

found my problem

little plastic tab in slide got goofed up so I replaced it, I HOPE it will be fine now THANKS FOR THE SUGGESTIONS
