I recently bought a really nice, tight, and functional S&W Safety Hammerless in .38 and now I've been bitten by the bug for top break revolvers.
I stopped in to the local gun store today and walked out with the start of a new project.
I bought a sorry old S&W .38 Double Action. The original grips are there but cracked, the finish is almost all worn off, and best of all; the teeth on the extractor are worn almost off, and the cylinder does not reliably carry up or stop as the cylinder stop is too worn.
Oh, did I mention the slight but ominous bulge in barrel about a haf inch from the muzzle?
Call me crazy, but I'm going to get it working properly again. I'm thinking of it as atonement for the Turk Mauser I sporterized last year. With some new parts, I think it will be a good restoration. I think the barrel is still shootable, so that alleviates one big concern.
I know Numrich has some parts, so that may not be a problem; but does a anyone know of any gunsmith who really works on these and knows them well? Any thoughts?
