I've been looking over the CZ rifles on the CZ-USA website and gunbroker to get an idea for a new 6.5 x55 I've been thinking about. There have been some descriptions with LUX included. Does anyone know what this stands for?

As I understand it, the LUX is of the European style stock (hogback) w/ finer wood and has open sights (like the FS). As opposed to the American straight stocked walnut, no sights to be scoped. I could be wrong.

Luxus. Used on German and Czech guns with better grade wood, checkering, etc. than standard models.

French equivalent is de luxe. Bet you've seen that one... :D

I have a 550 American in 6.5x55. VERY nice rifle. You will not be unhappy with it. I think, however, that the Lux versions are no longer being sold here in the USA (could be wrong). You should at least be able to find one used.

The single set trigger is really trick. Makes accuracy at the range a lot easier. With the set trigger activated I barely have to do any more than brush the trigger to get it break.

I have a 9.3x62 550 Lux. As other posters have said, you get iron sights (decent but not great rear sight and a really slick front sight that allows you to change beads/blades with the touch of a button) and the hog's back stock. The stock has been decried by some as an aesthetic disaster. I suppose if you only know or like American or English stock styles it is. But if you can live with the continental lines, you'll love it. I was neutral on the styling until I shot my Lux for the first time. The 9.3x62 is getting up there on the recoil scale and the hog's back handles the recoil brilliantly. It's also a fast-handling stock design and points well on snap shots and such.

If you can find one in 6.5x55 try it. I have a 550 FS in 6.5x55 and like it. It has the right twist for heavier 6.5mm bullets and the CZ bolt face is cut right for the 6.5 Swede's bastard head dimensions.

And, yeah, that single set trigger is pretty nifty. On the other hand, the CZ triggers are fully and easily adjustable and I have gotten the pulls on both my rifles to the point that I really don't use the single set feature.

Thanks for the info guys. I kind of like the looks of the hog's back stock. Up to now I have been thinking about one of the Tikka rifles, but the CZ certainly has my attention. In the past I have seen some pretty nice looking CZ's at gun shows and have always been impressed by the wood on most of them.
