NO this isn't about Safes Vs. Storage containers, or what type of moisture prevention you should use. It is about a simple matter of size. I have found that my GSG-5 and AR carbines are just a bit to short for the safe while my rifles are fine. What is the best way to elevate the Guns to better fit in the safe. Just some wooden blocks or do you use something else?

I cut a 2x4 down to size to fit flush across the bottom and used a router to cut a channel for their stocks to sit in. Glued a piece of green felt to it.

my safe has a partition in the center and i put a shelf on one side of it that is about 5-6" off the bottom of the safe. i put the short guns in there and the long guns on the other side.

One of my safes came with foam blocks in the shipping box. I put one of them under part of the bottom carpet for carbines.

That said, I store my AR carbine with the stock extended, and it's as long as a number of my other guns.

If it were just 1 or 2 guns that were too short, and you didn't want to bother with blocks and such, I'd suggest just extending a small dowel rod out of the muzzle far enough to allow the weapon to rest on.

If you don't care much about the accuracy of your rifle, that might work quite well.

I don't think a Dowel rod would hard a barrel. Soft wood isn't gonna do anything to Steel or Chrome lined steel.

Guess you've never seen the muzzle of a muzzleloader that's been loaded in the field. Also, it's not just wood. It's wood, plus grit and fouling.

Depends on how you use it, but I can't imagine a target shooter stuffing something in the muzzle. Those guys yell at you if you put a cleaning rod through once from the muzzle end.

You could use a bayonet for the AR. I need an excuse to buy one, myself.:)

I used one of those spinnng gun racks .
You have some adjustment as to muzzle support ring placement (when you choose the appropriate design for your needs), it holds 12 carbine to long-range-bench length weapons. It spins smoothly on ball bearings and keeps the guns from unauthorized fraternization amongst one-another.
