A question for you lever action aficionados.

I've got a Taylor 1873 Winchester copy and the color case hardening is superb, however, I used it for CAS (Frontier) using BP and cleaned it thoroughly after each shoot, removing the side plates, but still had the toggle switches bend twice on me and need replacing. That by the way is my only complaint on the rifle it is very accurate. BTW I ordered them both times from Taylor. Not sure if they are in business anymore.

Taylor's is indeed still going strong. Looking at another 1873 revolver as we type.
Also looking at the EMF Co. site for the "Paladin". Out of stock! Dang.

Update. The Post Office via the tracking number says the package was delivered to my FFL this morning. I called my FFL and they said their shipping and receiving crew is off on Saturday and it would be next week.

They also said that because of the China Virus, trucking and shipping has been so messed up that they're just now getting inventory they order last year. So, the "crew" won't get to my package right away.

I want to add a reproduction "1873" Winchester to my modest collection of lever action rifles. Winchester, not Uberti, etc.

I want color case hardened and an octagonal barrel and my market is Gunbroker offerings. I think I have some I would trade ya will have to look I don’t have a 45lc

There are some Winchesters that meet the criteria and are in 45 Colt cartridge. I own no firearms in that caliber but have the dies, primers and powder necessary to make my own ammo. Except, I have no brass. Don't know where to get brass except paying gouger's prices on GB.

On the other hand, there are some 1873 Winchesters that are CCH in 357 caliber but with a round barrel. I don't want a round barrel but am leaning toward the notion that, since I have plenty of reloading components in that caliber, maybe round isn't so bad.

What would you do? Get what you want but have to wait indefinitely to shoot it? Or "settle" and head to the range?

(However, if I were to get the 45 Colt I'd likely bite the bullet and pay five times MSRP for brass off GB.)

Everglades ammo has it in stock for 27$ per 100 once fired

Look for "once fired brass" or "capital cartridge" . They get range brass all the time, sooner or later they will have it.

"Price gouging" is a liberal invention designed to elicit an emotional response from people who know very little about basic economics.

If I were I a praying man, I'd say amen to that.

To the OP, I heard the other day that Starline was taking backorders now.
Don't know if .45 Colt was included in that or not.
I'd definitely go big bore though. Just because I love them.

I'd buy the rifle I want and pick one just enough brass to hold me over until things return to normal. 45 colt brass is pretty tough so if you load mild rounds you should get your money's worth out of it.

Still waiting on Sunny Slopes to post that picture...

SS... you buy that .45 Colt rifle?

Got it. A full month after I "won" the auction and a full three weeks after it was shipped, I finally picked it up. The Louisiana FFL jacked up the order by sending it to Ohio ("OH") instead of Oklahoma ("OK"). It was resent but languished in Akron for four days before it actually started south. My FFL called last Thursday (4/22) to say it was in. Does the offer for the brass still stand?

Nice!

I’m glad you went with the shorter barrel. I had a 24” Win 94 Legacy in .45 Colt years ago when I shot SASS matches. It is just a bit too much barrel for pistol caliber rounds in my limited opinion...but I don’t fault folks for liking them at all.

16”-20” barrels for pistol calibers is my personal-preference wheelhouse. These carbines boost velocity over revolvers by a huge margin, yet remain short and handy to wield in the woods, the deer blind, or even the hallway if pressed into a defensive role.

I think you’ll like that carbine. Once you get it out to the range let us know how it shoots for you.

Stay safe.

I got my 45 colt brass from starline in 3 weeks on backorder. Just get starline brass.
