A question to all New York residents

I bet in most of NYS it's easier to get a concealed pistol permit than most of CA. There is no waiting period in NY.

The waiting period for restricted/unrestricted carry in NY is months, sometimes a year long wait for approval. And expensive. About $150 to apply.

NYC is hostile to anyone who wants to own a gun. Those with spotless records, and I mean not even minor violations and a good popular social standing or the wealthy are the only ones who are going to get permission to own firearms without having to fight for the right.

Every other other average joe can eat dirt especially if you are poor.

My impression is these permit holders like to basque in their "privilage" while others are denied their basic human rights to protect themselves until the day NY legislaters give them a swift kick in the #ss by passing even more restrictive firearm ownership requirements and more draconian punishments for those who disregard them.

The one thing that does not seem to change is if you have a whole lot of money to throw around you can easily be one of those priviliged few who can carry 38 specials or special customized low power 9mms for personal protection.

NYC is anti gun I get that. Gun laws here are already tough, they are, really, they really are and they still don't work, but that is beside the point.

Any new gun control laws passed here is only for the sake of political grandstanding and nothing else. They accomplish absolutely nothing and therefore have no value aside from ruining the lives of people who are otherwise productive and valuable.

Another point is that NYC guns laws have long been proven worthless in preventing crime which has it' origins in poverty, ignorance, and lack of parenting rather than an inanimate object.

Instead of seeking to address and correct these issues they are trying to place the blame on other States that have a majority of the population that want and enjoy firearms ownship for problems they don't have nor want anything to do with.

NYC polititians and those of other gun control states are trying suppress the free will of other States that do not choose nor want gun control by attempting to create and steam roll new federal gun control laws over these states. This is unjust, unfair, uncalled for, and absolutely unconstitutional.

Making criminals out the law abiding residents of other states who choose to enjoy their freedom to unhindered use of firearms, who for the most part do not have high crime problems on top of that amounts to nothing more than punishing these people for seeking liberty, and the persuit of happiness by robbing them of their life.

It isn't very hard to figure which people are the ones who are most likely doing something right and living a better quality of life. If you allow these people to be robbed of their quality of life you may be the next person robbed of quality of life.

I love everything about NYC except the Gun Laws, I left in 1999 after living in the city for 55 years, Now I live the State of Tennessee , and shoot every day off my back porch. Buy a pistol Drivers license and a clean record, and a 5 minute background check, A must issue CCP state. I love it
PS no state income Tax, Low property tax

You left in 1959 after living in the city for 55 years? That means you are around 110 years old?

That's true, but there is no waiting period to purchase a gun and take possession of it, once you do have the permit. In California the dealer has to hold it ten days.

Resident all my life

I was born in new york city and left in `1972.

I did own rifles & shotguns back then in the city.

I moved to Western NYS,and have had a CCW since 1977.

I own and shoot OFTEN,belong to 2 gun clubs [ one is 5 minutes from my house ] and I hunt as well.

NYS is NOT the city,I still miss a few parts of the city [ the city I once knew ] .

Leaving NYC is a great idea as it makes you a more rounded person ,and you regain your RIGHT to keep & bear arms.

I would have to have Donald Trumps money to move back [ HE has a CCW ],otherwise another state would inherit me before I would move back there.

Good summation Scaat, the thing many people don't realize is there is New York State, and New York City. You can get a permit anyware but in New York City, "the 5 boroughs, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Manhattan ,and Staten Island. But if you have a New York City, permit, it's good Statewide, But the state permit, along with Long Island, is not good in New York City. As soon as you enter the 5 Boroughs you cannot have that firearm, even though 2 minutes away , you can.
That's what makes it confusing to people who aren't into these things. My managers and owners in Long Island, all had their carry license, they just couldn't carry in NYC 'Proper", they could in Nassau, or Suffolk, or the rest of the state, but not in NYC. They got theirs in a matter of months, mine took a year. Theirs was a simple form, mine was a 6 month FBI investigation. So you can get a license but not in NYC proper, because they change the rules to make it only possible for millionaires, defense attorneys, judges, wealthy businessmen, Actors, "well you get the picture. I was told that the cash amount one needs to prove for business, is 50 thousand dollars per deposit. That is "cash", it used to be 5 thousand, and that was before credit cards were taken in many cash businesses.

@George Burns

I am one of the lucky ones,I became an LEO in 1982 and from thereon I was "allowed" to carry in the entire state.

Then came HR218,and I can carry in 50 states.

Yes,there are a few restrictions [federal bldgs. etc ] but they are generally not applicable to my situation.

Cannot explain how nice it is to be "allowed".

I got a NYS CCW permit in 1965 (Niagara County) which allowed me to carry concealed everywhere except the 5 boroughs of NYC. I had business in NYC in March of '65 in Manhattan. I traveled to White Plains (PD} to turn in my weapon before entering "no-mans Land" and did my business. Upon leaving GNYC, I Stopped in White Plains to retrieve my weapon. Unfortunately, the armory was closed and no one there could return my .38 special Colt, Chief's special revolver. After 6 months of inquiries, I still did have my pistol! In April of '66 I ended up in the US Army, and the quest for my "misplaced" pistol ended up on hold.

I made several attempts through the NY State police to retrieve my pistol after returning to the U.S. in Spring of 1968. No one could find ANY record of the gun being turned in at White Plains. To say that they were uninterested in helping me find this gun would be an understatement. Finally I gave up and forgot about it.

In 1975, ten years later, I was in Bonita Springs, Florida when agents from the ATF were at my door, asking about my .38 special, Cold Detective Special, serial number XXXXXX--where was it? Did I sell it to someone? Where was the gun now? Had I answered incorrectly, I would have been charged with a crime.

It turned out that my gun had been used in a "gangland slaying" in Rochester N.Y. and the gun had been left behind. Luckily for me I had the original receipt from the White Plains PD.showing that I had not retrieved the gun. Otherwise, I would have been charged with this crime.

Keep in mind that the ATF are not the sharpest knives in the drawer, and your life/future depends on them getting this right.

I'd like to know how it got from White Plains PD to the hands of a criminal in Rochester. That's a real "New York story" right there.

But all illegal guns come from outside NY where the gun laws are so lax. Isn't that true?

Someone in that police station sold or gave it to someone.
