After receiving my 1851 Colt .36 Navy a few weeks ago I was surprised to discover that the front sight was high and I was shooting a little low. With most of the reproduction revolvers it always seems to low and I shoot way to high.
It was really shooting great where it was at but in my old age and time on my hands I had to adjust it so that it was perfect. For me that means I need it to shoot about 1" high at 10 yards (30') because I like the 6:00 hold on snake heads and other nasty critters.:) Anyway , I took the sight down about 1/16" to far so I came up with an easy fix.
After cleaning off the brass post I used a little tinners flux on it and got out the silver solder , got the soldering gun good and hot and placed a dap of solder on top and smooth it out and shaped just the way I wanted it with a small file and sand paper and it 's perfect now! It also really shows up in the dark "V" notch of the hammer. Need to clean it up just a touch more and I'm all set.

That brazing rod is a good way to go but I thought I would give this a try because I only needed a small amount on top to change it. The silver really shows up better for my eyes.
I have two 58 remingtons that I dovetailed the sights in and used an 1858 dime on one, The other I used german silver:) A lot of work but fun too. They really look great and the sights are right on. My son grabed the one I put the dime on and I never got it back,Lol. It will go to him someday anyway. The other son will get one of these.
