Tonight I pick up my first MKII.A question for those of you with expierience? What ammo does your like?I ask because I'd rather buy 3 or 4 bricks that might work as opposed to 10 & have half become "spray & pray" fodder.
BTW,if it matters it's the SS 6.875in slab side model. No scope.
Thanks,jeff

Whatever I feed it.

From aguila SSS, colibri's, to federal and remington el cheapos. Mine is a trooper!

Been feeding mine Wolf Match Target lately, and it loves it. Good thing I stocked up when it was still cheap.

Personally I think it silly to stock up without shooting a few boxes of it first to verify it works well in your particular gun(s).

My experience with a Mk I and an AMT Mk II "clone" (before Ruger made 'em in stainless) suggests your's will probably shoot anything that fits in the mag.

I have found that all of my 22 LR's like Federal and Remington target and plated hollowpoint ammo. None seem to like Winchester ammo. Odd.:scrutiny:

My Slabside likes everything I've tried except Rem bulk pack and Federal (American) red box. Wolf Match Target is the best stuff for me.

I used to compete in NRA Conventional Pistol matches (indoor and outdoor) with mine. The ammo I used was Remington Thunderbolt. It shot fine out to 50 yards.

If I shoot matches with it again, I'll probably use Wolf Match Target. The Mark II seems to shoot that brand just a little bit finer.

Mine likes Winchester T22 best of all, but will shoot Federal American Eagle and Wolf .22 as well.

BTW, did you know that Wolf 22 ammo is actually SK Jagd, made in Germany? Really good match grade stuff.

Just because your gun can feed anything through, does not mean it's the most accurate with that brand.
If you can afford a slabside, I'm sure you can spring a few bucks on a variety of .22 ammo, and put that beast through a good test. :)

My T-514 likes Remington Vipers, but then I like Reminton Vipers.

Seriously, if you are going for accuracy, buy a box of everything you can find, then buy a brick of the most accurate.

Geoff
Who notes a very good shot put 5 rounds out of his Ruger into one hole at 7 yards.

My 5" bull 22/45 is most accurate with milkcrate Remington Thunderbolts.

Reliable and adequate accuracy with everything else I've tried.

My MKII is designed for the CCI Mini-Mags. :D

SWR integrally suppressed MKII, Volquartsen action, and CT laser grips.

winchester wildcats..I buy them in 500 rnd boxes for 8.97.I have the slabside competition model.I tried a box of green lable rem match ammo for the extra $$ but found it made little difference in the accuracy for the imformal plinking and hunting I use my ruger for.does anyone make a 22 short conversion kit for the ruger mark2?it would be dandy for barn rats and pigeons.

My Gov't Target seems to be the one and only Mk II out there that's less than perfectly reliable--it stovepipes just a little too frequently. But CCI Mini-mags work better than anything else I've tried...

Eschew the theoretical, embrace the empirical!

Run your own tests!

My KMK-6, with the 6’ tapered barrel, runs fine on everything I have tried. Match ammo does perform better, though not so much as to justify the expense in a plinker. I have not done rigorous testing, but high velocity loads seem to run dirtier than standard loads. First failure mode (haven't found second failure mode, yet) in my MkII is when the unburnt powder fouling so slows the travel of the bolt stop that the bolt outruns it on the last shot in a magazine, leading to an annoying CLICK if I have not correctly counted shots. Bolt stop failure happens so quickly with the Remington bulk pack that I only buy it when in "save the session" desperation mode. Haven’t delisted anything else, yet.

Mine likes the Federal Lightning available at KMart for $9 per brick.

Ditto
