A reasonable buy?

I purchased a S&W 10-7 this morning. The gun is unfired and the story I received at the gun shop was that it was from a supply of unissued police revolvers found in a Hong Kong warehouse. It has a lanyard ring and the back strap is stamped C & E followed by a four digit number. The serial number is AFW6xxx. This price of the revolver was $289.00.

Was this a reasonable price and can someone furnish me with further information regarding date of manufacture and the stamp on the backstrap?
I'm away from home due to a family emergency and don't have access to my reference materials.

Interesting the SCoS&W says Dec 1984 for a birthdate but then says the -7 was produced in77' only? ( The 3 letter serial #'s started in 80.) The book also refferences a Hong Kong Police run but that run was in 83 and stamped RHKP. .
If I had to guess, I'd say the gun was built for some foriegn govt and the C&E stood for "Customs & Entry?..."
