Can you identify ALL 10 cartridges/calibers on the cover of the Lyman Reloading Handbook 49th Edition without referring to any outside source? Or put another way, how many can you POSITIVELY identify without referring to an outside source? I'm ashamed to admit how few I can POSITIVELY identify!

For folks such as rcmodel et al, you also have to provide the bullet caliber, weight, manufacturer, COAL, primer type, and load (in grains)!! :D

I cant play this game. My Lymans just came in first thing this morning. After a little bit of reading, this is exactly what I did. HAHA So I already got most of thim using a source. But very good idea. Josh

I'm afraid I'd have to cheat and look at the book to even get close to I'Ding all of them.

And that one laying down behind all the rest would be real hard!

Is that a .338 Lapua ... I've never seen one so I'm just "whistlin' dixie". :D

From the lack of response I'm guessing this quiz is too hard or just not interesting. Maybe I ought to offer a box of small rifle primers as a prize ... I hear they're hard to find.

:)

Do you have the correct answer list?
I looked briefly in the manual but didn't find one.

.338 Lapua
Are you completely crazy!!!! :what:

That has to be a .376 Steyr if I never saw one either! :D

See, that's why this a bad idea.
We could still be arguing about it two years from now!

I'm good at this game when its played with "old" rounds...but all these new rounds goes over my head...there are 3 rounds in that pic that I believe I can positively identify.

A publication will often have a description of what's on the front cover so that's the FIRST thing I looked for before I started the thread and I couldn't find anything either ... and no, I don't have a "correct answer list". :D

I could send off an email to Lyman ... maybe they'll throw in a bunch of stuff for the winner!!

That's three more than me!!

What kinda game is this? No answers and no prize...:D

I'm suprised that rc even got started with this. I can see Ridgerunner665 gettin' into this. He's just a kid...:neener:

Here are some numbers to help out ... and I just sent an email to Lyman to ask them for the answers. As soon as I receive it I'll post it here so until then just fire away.

Haha I was wondering about those rounds too. Being a noob I have no problem making a moron of myself; seeing as how I do that almost everyday anyway. These are my guesses based on proportions:
1- Weatherby of some kind
2 - .308
3 - 45-70
4 - .223 WSSM
5 - No idea but looks like it'd be a fun round
6 - 9mm w/ cast lead
7 - ? (don't know pistol rounds too well)
8 - see 7
9 - 30-06
10 - .17 Remington

What's this ?

RCM "I'm afraid I'd have to cheat and look at the book to even get close..."

What? RCM can't name all of them from memory?

That's it, buddy! Turn in your skin-tight super hero uniform right away.

:neener:

I'll give it a (random) shot:

1: 45/70?
2: 270?
3: 454?
4: 300WSSM?
5: 17HMR?
6: 9MM?
7: 460?
8: 500?
9:not enough to tell....7MM mag?
10: .223?

Pretty sure that first one is a 416 Rigby

Edit, oh, and I'm thinking 5 is a 6.8 SPC

im not going to try. i will say one thing though. that sure is a heck of a crimp on number 6. also. i am very very suprised RC has not jumped in on this. i figured he would have answered it in a minute.

ok heres my goatit..
1) goin with the .416 on thisin
2).308
3)45-70
4)6mm ppc
5).,....?...necked down pistol round...? of 224ish origin
6)9mm
7).44 mag
8)500S&W
9)looks like another .308.....so maybe 30-06
10).243

oh, an #10 really does look like my .204's do...

jeez i wonder what # 4's parent case is!!!

Just got a reply from Lyman and here's what they have to say on the matter ...

"Actually, we never saved a list of the cartridges that we used for the photo. We believe
some of them were: 5.7x28m FN, 416 Rigby, 500 S&W, a WSSM, (not sure of the caliber),
a 38 S&W. We're not sure of the rest. Sorry we can't help more. Maybe we should enter the contest also!"

Now THAT'S funny!! :D

The FN was really the only one i was positive of.

And that reply makes me like lyman, because that is a real answer. Hard to get those these days.

Here are my guesses based on the picture here.
1-460 Wea
2-338 win mag
3-45-70
4-7mm win. short mag.
5- 7.62x39
6-45 schofield
7-44 mag
8-480 ruger
9-35 whelen
10-25-06

1. 416rigby
2. 30-06, (neck and body is too long for 308).
3. ? 454 or 460.
4. 224wssm (or 25wssm possibly).
5. 5.7 FN.
6. 38s&w.
7. ? 45colt or 450marlin.
8. 500s&w.
9. 358win or 35rem (hard to say).
10. 17rem or 17/223
