My uncle died this afternoon. He was a Navy veteran. A navy diver turned underwater demolition team turned sael team. He did 6 tours in Vietnam as a seal. He was at several other events including panama and grenada. He was present in the middle east off and on until he retired just before the first gulf war. After that I suspect he still worked for "the company" for some time then he got a job training seals in southern California. He was not much of a shooter off the job nor was he any sort of gun nut just a fun guy to be around.

Now for the gun related part. His funeral will be in a few weeks in California and I know bringing my gun will never fly in that state. is a pocket knife legal that is if I were to put it in my lugage and carry it in my pocket when I get there?

God Bless your Uncle.

My condolences as well.

As I understand, a pocketknife with a 3" blade is legal to carry in California.

Carrying a gun w/o a California permit is only legal in the woods or on private property you have permission to carry it on.

Having a gun in California is legal. It is not legal to import certain guns into that state, nor is it legal to import magazines whose capacity is over 10 rounds,

I will likely never go to california again so I will just not trouble myself with trying to figure their rules out. I have a good knife so I will"stick" with it.

both my family and I thank every one for your thoughts and prayers.

Thanks friends

Eric,
As a vet of the USN, though never having been through BUDS, I fondly remember those Seals with whom I had the privelege to serve. They never, ever quit anything they set out to do and I always knew they would bring me home at the end of the day(s). I never knowingly missed an opportunity to associate with those guys on or off duty.
He was one of a special breed whom I hold dear. Your sad loss is also our great country's sad loss. The history of his selfless duty to America imparts a special immortality to him. God Bless your uncle and his memory.

Sincere condolences, and may God bless him and all of his family. One other patriot I owe my freedom to.

Eric,
my condolences. My father was a graduate of Annapolis (1948) and a member of the U.D.T. in the Korean War, and spent a year in the submarine service after the war.
He passed away in 1991 after a battle with cancer.
During his lifetime he was always a powerful swimmer and never lacked for stamina no matter what physical activity he engaged.

Again, my prayers are with you and your family.

My sincere condolences to you and your family.

My late husband was in the USN, Vietnam Veteran and around the world, on a destroyer. Later on he was in the Air NG Fighter Wing along with his non government job. He died from cancer @ 56 years old.

Take care.

Catherine
PS: I don't know anything about CA knife laws.

Wish I could have known your uncle. Godspeed to another warrior, and may God comfort and strengthen you and your family in this loss.

I'd recommend checking with the airline before you fly as to their rules. Don't assume ANYthing these days; the game is tilted in favor of the BGs*, it seems. You stand a chance of losing your knife, innocuous as it may appear to you or me.
