I greatly respect and admire your decision to give up alcohol. It would certainly be for the best for us all. I greatly admire president Trump for the example he set also.
I have given up tobacco (very hard), and have seriously considered giving up drinking too...I have to maintain a CDL for my semis, I have to be careful with my ccp and I'm a volunteer fireman basically on-call 24-7

I applaud you, especially for being a volunteer fireman! It's a rewarding, but at times, seriously hard thing to do. There was a neighborhood fire at a friends' apartment on Christmas eve when we lived in an older neighborhood in Waterville, ME. The fire started in a ceiling fixture and did little damage, but several of the volunteer firemen had started celebrating early and it was difficult to watch as a few were stumbling around, trying to hook up the hoses. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished without much damage to the structure.

My 4WD truck is pretty old, but in pretty good shape. The road is still too muddy to go all the way down to the field. I had to rake ruts made last week, before stopping at even wetter sections.

I'm very close to picking up a new rimfire and have narrowed it down to a .17 HMR, either a Ruger American or CZ 455. You might have just made up my mind for me.

I've shot a .17hmr one. I really liked it. .22lr is just more practical for me as a general plinker. If I was clipping squirrels and othe small critters, I'd probably get a .17hmr though. Thing is light out fast and accurate.

I've got a couple friends who are crushing it, with a 17HMR. I use .223, but it's those same Hornady red tips.
They just about explode, on contact. One body shot on a critter, and he's DRT.

Sounds to me like you had a good day, Picher.
