In a nutshell what the Democrats are proposing, and have proposed are four items:
1. ban of all semi automatics except for the military. Even the police would be issued on revolvers and pump shotguns. Revolvers and shotguns would be seen as all that is necessary for self defense.
2. ban of all magazines over 10 rounds.
3. ban on any ammunition that would have a velocity over 2000 fps. Thus everyone would be required to hunt within 300m. No "sniper rifles".
4. federal licensing of all gun owners. Super extreme background checks ever five years. Not just criminal activity but financial and even political views.
This is patterned after what the British used to have and what currently the Germans have.
