16 Senate Republicans voted with the Democrats to break a proposed filibuster and allow a full vote on Universal Background Checks, 2013 Assault Weapons Ban and the Magazine Ban.

Man this really hurts. I will say that screwing over the people that put you in office is a dumb idea if you would like to keep your job. What do I know, I'm just a lowly serf. All I know is I'm pretty down about this.:(

Yep, I agree. Bob Corked and Lamar Alexander from Tennessee were two of traders! I will not support either of them in future.

.

I wonder if this was always their plan?

So they could lull us into a false sense of security thinking the AWB was off the table.

That is FALSE. No one has voted to allow a full VOTE, and there won't be one for several weeks yet. :banghead:

JRH6856 hit it on the head. They voted to break the filibuster so the DEBATE can start. We'll have to see how those senators actually vote when the voting comes along.

The two party system is a HUGE FAILURE

Vote for Freedom next time around gents. At least when we lose you'll have a clean soul like me. =)

Maybe so, but they (it was 16 Republicans BTW, not 10) voted to move things forward. I still consider that betrayal. This thing needed to be stopped at the first opportunity. I've already (in another thread) compared how my then-Senator could have stopped Obamacare, but voted to let it go forward "so people could debate it." This is no different. We (our side) should be playing for keeps here, meaning we should use every trick of the trade to stop this bill before it gets anywhere, at the first opportunity. Fortunately (for them) none of the 16 Republicans who betrayed us on this are from my state. We voted out the last Senator who went against the wishes of her constituents and we will do the same thing again on this issue. And Senator Pryor knows it, which is why he is one of two Democrats who voted YEA to stop this thing now. He knows what his constituents want. My guess is that in all but one or two cases, those 16 Republicans went against the will of their home state constituents. They do not deserve to be reelected.

The greatest problem is the paucity of “Blue Dog Democrats”. I don’t know if there are any. This was something Harlen Carter warned about decades ago, and always turns out to be true, when one party thinks it “owns” you, they will trade off your concerns for the “bigger picture”. Because gun owners identify and vote Republican (at least the majority), Republicans feel gun owners have no place to go. When there were Blue Dog Democrats, the Democratic party was concerned about losing them if they perused an anti gun agenda, now with zero Blue Dogs, they don’t have that to think about and the Republicans take us for granted.
