I just wanted to take some time to recognize some extraordinary help and service I have received from Mike Stewart at Bark River Knife and Tool and Larry and Mary at DLT Trading Company. I will be posting this at several forums that I visit in order to say thanks.

Let me introduce you to my father-in-law, Chaplain Col. Bryan Hult. He was until very recently serving as the head chaplain for the Indiana National Guard. This is as high as one can go as a chaplain at the state level in fact there is only one higher position that a guard chaplain can reach - Assistant to the Army Chief of Chaplains. Recently we found out that he was promoted to that position. Now he is basically serving as the head chaplain over the National Guard.

Along with this position comes a promotion to Brigadier General. There is only one Chaplain General Officer in all of the National Guard so you can imagine how proud we, his family, are of his accomplishments. This is the zenith of a career for a Guard Chaplain.

This man has over 20 years of service to his country in the Army, both active and in the Guard. He holds a doctorate, master's degrees, and he is the head pastor of our church. He means a lot to a lot of people. He has lived his life in a very open, transparent way. He would never tell you any of this himself. This is a man who I am proud to call my father-in-law.

My wife and I wanted to honor him in a special way. Most gift ideas seemed to fall short. Nothing short of an heirloom would do. Then it dawned on me to bring Mike Stewart at Bark River in on the conversation. Mike was extremely helpful in talking me through which knife would be most appropriate, then which handle material, and then referring me to Larry and Mary at DLT Trading Company to have the blade laser engraved. Larry and Mary walked me through the process of designing the blade and even did some of the design work for us. These are two companies, Bark River and DLT, who want to honor men who have served like my father-in-law. This is why I will continue to shop with Bark River and DLT.

The end result is a beautiful BRKT SOCOM in Desert Ironwood Burl. The front of the knife is engraved with a General's Star, his name and new rank, as well as a Chaplain's Cross. The back of the knife is engraved with the United States Flag, the National Guard Minute Man and the flag of the state of Indiana. It is a beautiful knife! Mike must have hand picked the Ironwood because it shows a tremendous amount of depth and grain. Larry and Mary executed the engraving flawlessly.

My wife and I are thrilled. We can't thank Mike, BRKT, Larry, and Mary enough.

Thank you,
Matt and Katy Hazard

Sounds like Mike. He's a great guy who stands behind a fantastic product. Just be warned those Barkies are addictive. Please pass my congratulations on to your father in-law.

That is a fine story. Your father in law sounds like a GREAT man!!

Did you by chance take a picture of his knife? I would love to see it!
