I have asked for Oleg's blessing & got it before posting so that this thread won't be locked out.
Ever since the protestors started their little public fits, I've been looking for a way to show support for our troops , that would really amount to something more than just a few words. I think I have found it. Feed The Children Is asking for donations of $14.00 to supply 100#'s of food to the families of our reservist troops that are left behind ( with a lot less income ) when they are called to active duty.
Feed The Children is one of the few charities that use almost none of their donations for their own administration, almost every penny goes to their cause.
I believe that knowing their families will get some support from others will give our fighting men a little peace of mind , as they go into battle.
Here is a link to their website if you would like to know more.

BTT. HElp out your servicemans familys while they are gone doing what we ask them to do , I have some family members in the reserves and believe me they don't do it for the money .. if it means personally going over ther and asking them what they need or help them to pay the bills .

Feed the Childern

I think you had better do some more research on Feed The Childern they have had several scandels. One envolved his wife one envolved his son and some property. Will try to find some reputable resources for you. IMOO Their are better more deserving organizations who could and know how better to help the families. VFW, USO, RED CROSS or just contact your local recruiter or reserve center they will get you in touch with write people.

I felt sick when I saw the news stories last night about the reservists, most of whom are getting a 70% drop in pay when they get activated to serve... and how their families can't even make their house payments. Speaking as the husband of a reservist (Navy medical) who was activated in Desert Storm and is now waiting to be activated again, I have to say it's a sad state of affairs that our troops need a charity to take up donations to help feed their families while they fight. It's disgraceful. Luckily, we have two incomes in our family and no problems there (thank God). If I ever did get to meet Mr. Bush (not likely) I'd ask him why the government has billions for weapons and no money to pay the people who man them. Ooops, I guess I am talking like a liberal.

By all means check out the charity's record before donating. I've been less than keen on the track record of quite a few. That said, I think this thread was started in good faith.

One alternative approach is to deliver the help personally. It can be done on a friend-to-friend basis (i.e. take them out to dinner or help with kids when one spouse is unavailable, etc.)

Dont forget care packages were what kept us from going absolutely nuts over there in '90-'91. I am not sure how much better the rations are these days but beef jerky and those travel packs of "wet wipes" were always welcome.

Form a local group (or do it alone) and "adopt" a soldier, sailor, Marine, or airman. Letters from home from people you don't know but who express support are a great boost to morale...letter writing is one of the few downtime activities you can call your own in the sand. A buddy of mine over there now is a USAF officer, and he has a temp email account. Most aren't so lucky.
