Great Forum, really enjoy and appreciate all of the information however it seems to me the dozens and dozens of abbreviations don't help to quickly read and understand the posts. Looking at the list, it's pretty amazing how long it is. Other than less keystrokes, is there a reason?

What list??
Which abbreviations??

Abbreviations are just part of the firearms world.

For instance, if you were posting a question or answer?

Would you rather type out FMJ-BT when almost everyone knows what that is?
Or type Full Metal Jacket Boat-Tail every time you referenced that bullet in the Reloading or Rifles forum?

The abbreviations aren't specific to this forum, neither is the concept of abbreviations...

Personally I think the abbreviations are often overdone here and in other forums. I think some of it stems from cultural laziness brought on by texting but some of it comes off more like the Secret Knights of the Grand Water Buffalo club and their secret handshake meant to let outsiders know they are outsiders. But, follow along long enough and you will pick up on them, even the unnecassary ones. WWIYKWIM. Wink wink, if you know what I mean.

afaik, fwiw, iirc "s**f" etc. You might not see "s**f gun", because those topics are terminated, with prejudice.
Anything dealing with WROL, chaotic scenarios are verboten.

Like anything else there is a language. I coached high school football for 30 years. I can be in a room full of coaches discussing strategy and most other people think we are speaking a foreign language. Hang out with a bunch of guys in the military and you'll see the same thing.

It can be confusing at first, but you'll catch on. If something comes up that you don't understand don't be afraid to ask. As long as I've been doing this I run across some I don't know.

Not really I guess, but it does save time, and for all of us typing challenged folks, it helps out.

If I had known they were going to invent the personal computer, I would have taken typing in school.

You'll get used to the common abbreviations fairly quickly.

Same here, but I draw the line and quit reading a post when the author starts using that abbreviated text messaging lingo.......:banghead:
