I am looking at A used Daewoo dp51 in 9mm and I have a few questions. The pistols looks to be in very good shape, but neither I nor the proprietor of the store, nor another customer could figure out how to field strip the thing ( I wouldnt buy a car without looking under the hood, so why would I buy a gun?) I havn't found much info so any help would be appreciated. What should I look for in the way of wear of damage?
Also, has anyone owned one of these? What did you think? Thanks!

I've had two. Both great guns, but traded the 9mm away, recently, because I have so many other 9mms.

Good solid gun. Disassembles and reassembles very much like a S&W semi-auto. If you can find instructions for that, it should work.

Walt, thanks for your reply, but could you please tell me how you field strip the pistol? ( I want to check it out in the next couple of days and I dont have time to get instructions for a smith) thanks!

1) Remove the magazine.

2) assure that the chamber is empty.

3) With your left hand, place your left thumb in the trigger guard and wrap you hand around the slide (over the top of the slide.)

4) move the slide to the rear just far enough for the visible notch on the slide to align with the front of the slide release. (You want to position the notch OVER the are where the slide release inserts into the frame.)

5) From the reverse side, press on the end of the slide release, where it extends through the frame. If it does[n't] move out easily (with a press with a screwdriver handle or something hard), shift the slide slightly -- you haven't hit the sweet spot.

6) remove the slide stop and then remove the slide. Barrel removal, guide rod removal, etc., are pretty standard.

7) reassembly is the reverse. Position the slide as you would if the gun were ready to fire, and insert the slide stop MOST of the way into the slide (i.e., as far as it will go), then move the slide to the rear, aligning the notch and the slide stop, then pressing it on into the frame. Let the slide go forward.

8) Reinsert the mag, and you're good to go.

Thanks alot walt! I guess I didnt see the mark on the slide last time. I think I am going to inspect/probably purchase the pistol tommorow (If my permit comes in time) I appreciate the help.

The last one I played with was difficult to take apart because the Slide stop was really in there good! It took a little elbow grease, but the slide stop will come out.
