Absolutely NO gun ranges in my town...

The only public indoor range here in Lexington burned and won't be rebuilt. It's only a 15 minute drive to Buds Gunshop in Paris so I can still shoot. The closest public rifle range is at Clear Creek Furnace about 60 miles east of here. Fortunately, my family has 226 acres about an hours drive from here so, I will have a place to shoot.

I know you are looking for an outdoor range but I figured id let people know there is one right outside of mobile in fairhope on 98 at Gold Mine Pawn Shop

Styx sounds like the place to be though.

Tuscaloosa isn't any better. I have to drive 45 mins to an hour to Birmingham when I wanna shoot.

This is rather shocking- When I was in Kali, I had my choice of more than 5 ranges within half an hour of me. Now, it's almost an hour's drive. I pictured Alabama with ranges everywhere and gunshops instead of Starbucks on every block. This obviously isn't the case.
There's a reason you don't see many gun ranges in Mississippi and Alabama and other Southern states: 99% of the gun owners are deer hunters and they either pay big bucks to lease land where they can shoot as much as they want, or they own land (or have a friend or family member who owns land) where they can shoot at will.

The number of shooters who don't hunt is too small to support a gun range.

I'm in the latter group, by the way, and gun owners in my county has tried several times to operate a gun range. But every time they have closed because they cannot get large numbers of members to pay dues.

Folks will not pay for what they can get for free.

Call Quints, Ward's or McCoy,s sporting goods stores. Someone at one of those places ought to be able to point you to a place to shoot.

^^ This^^

I have a rifle range with 100, 200, and 300 yard targets.
I am working on setting me up a pistol range but I'm not real sure how I want it laid out yet. And everything is/will be available to anyone that I know and trust to be safe or anyone who will share ammo. :D

I have shot at my dads house for as long as I can remember, shot skeet in my brothers back yard, hunted on both grandparents land, gone to more shoots at friends houses than I could count, but I have never even seen a "public" range.

Ahhh
Sweet Home Alabama.

In Alabama, many of the shooting ranges are actually held on hunting land. The one I visit for Shelby county is in Cahaba valley. A little drive out of the way and can only use paper targets but membership is cheap: only need a hunting, fishing, or WMA license.
