It might be cheaper to buy than land, no doubt, but also less valuable when it comes time to sell or attempt to recoup losses. Cheaper in the long run? That depends on a lot of factor. Floating structures have some serious issues in dealing with being in an aquatic environment. How much insurance are you going to carry for the potential environmental cleanup that might be necessary should the vessel sink?
