Good job, GJ. I'm like you, I'd rather do it myself, even if I screw it up and have to fix it, than send it off to someone else. I've learned so much from just diving in and trying it.
I own a lathe, but when I cut a barrel I chuck it in the lathe and use a hacksaw, then crown it with a Brownells 11° crowning tool. The last few I've spun them in the lathe and smoothed the outside of the muzzle with wet/dry sandpaper.
