Anyone out there with the Mannlicher model CZ 452? I am interested in either the 22 lr or the 22 magnum. This may be a silly question, but would the shorter barrel of the Mannlicher model CZ 452 offer less accuracy than the 22-inch barrel version without the Mannlicher stock? How much velocity would be lost with the shorter barrel? Many thanks.

i have a cz452 fs, not sure if theres a difference w/accuracy with different length barrels. all the cz452 models are accurate, heres some of my best 5 shot groups at 50 yards using a scope

You're not going to lose any velocity - in fact you may gain velocity with the shorter bbl - if you don't understand that counter-intuitive conclusion, PM me and I'll explain it to ya.

On accuracy, the shorter bbl will NOT cause you to lose accuracy - if anything it will gain accuracy; again PM me if you want to know why (bbl stiffness).

If there IS any reason the FS would be less accurate, it would be because the stock is (or may be) touching the barrel towards then end, preventing consistent bbl harmonics from happening. But anecdotally, it would appear that there's very little, if any, actual real world effect from this, since the reports of accuracy seem quite favorable.

If you do have a shot string you can freefloat the barrel. But I haven't heard of any problems. My CZ452 Special shoots great.

Dr.Tad beat me to it. No need for long barrels with 22lr. I love my 452FS and it shoots almost as accurately as the pics above.

Actually some of what is posted may or may not be correct. In a scoped rifle a shorter and more rigid barrel will be more accurate than a longer 'whippy' barrel, although that can be overcome with very heavy contours.

In an iron sighted rifle, sight radius is more important than barrel harmonics. A longer barrel, thus sight radius, is advantageous.

16 inches is the maximum barrel length which a 22lr has the powder capacity to utilize. Anything longer than that and friction will slow the bullet down. It isn't really a issue that causes problems. My Lux shoots great.

Mine too, and it's a lot quieter.

Shorter barrels are stiffer and that can make for a more accurate barrel. The real world though isn`t cut and dry, you get variations in accuracy for a mulitude of reasons, bbl lenght is just one of them.
I have a 452fs in 17 HMR not a 22 cal. It shoots fine IMO though and with a 2x7 scope will do 3/4" groups at 100 real regularly.
The target in this pix is not a best or worst, just what was laying around when I took it.
BTW it was done @ 100 meters off a bench.
