Accurate .22 advice

This forum has been great for advice, so here goes. My wife and I are joining the local pistol club, and want to enter the 3-gun competition. I already own a 9mm and .45, so now I need a .22 to round out the group. Without spending a fortune (less than $500 I hope), what .22 would you all reccomend?

Buckmark, hopefully the 'target' model, or a Ruger MKIII. Just my preference (i certainly don't qualify as knowledgable) :)
 
If you you go with ruger, i would recommend tracking down a nice condition MKII, as its a lot easier to assemble/disassemble than a MKIII. The target model would be best. Also, consider a volquartsen trigger upgrade if you go with the ruger.
 
Rugers are great guns, plus you can trick them out, mostly with Volquartsen parts.

I installed much better grips since this pic was taken, but the gun still shoots really well.

if you can find a Ruger MKII Government Target grab it. Mine is amazingly accurate, I would say its the most accurate pistol that I have shot.
 
I second the Ruger Mark III or 22/45. The Mark III has a more aggressive grip angle, but is very comfortable to shoot. The 22/45 is set up like a 1911 grip, so if you already have a 1911 the grip angle should be comfortable.

I recommend a bull barrel model to help with muzzle flip, adjustable sights, and replaceable grips. I've been lusting after this baby http://www.ruger.com/products/2245SlabSided/specSheets/10145.html, which can be had for less than $400.

Also, you can customize the snot out of them, so they're fun to own.

Reliable, accurate, feeds and fires bulk ammo without a problem.
Really, though, handle both the Buckmark and the Ruger, and buy whichever one feels the best. You can't go wrong.
 
Depending on your choice of 9mm or .45 their are allot of great options for 22lr slides that will allow you to use only two guns for your 3 gun competition. If you .45 is a 1911 then marvel precision makes excellent 22lr slides. This would allow you to reduce the number of guns to learn and its a blast being able to shoot your favorite service pistol for pennies on the dollar. They also make 22lr slides for most other major brands like glock, ect...
 
You cant go wrong with either the Ruger or the Browning. I prefer the Browning. Go to the gun shop and see which gun speaks to you... If you stick to the MK or the Buckmark, you will be happy with your purchase.
