Hi all!

I looked all over the Internet and I cannot find anyone with a definitive (or even a semi-definitive) answer to what I could substitute Accurate #5,7 or 9 for in any of the other popular powders like Winchester, Hodgdon or IMR.

I'm hoping to load my 7.62x25 for my tokarev, but the only load data available is from my Lee Die set, and a couple of repeats of people having success with those loads, albeit with lesser velocity than published by Lee, are with those three Accurate loadings. I looked around my local gun stores and they either don't carry Accurate, or they haven't received a shipment in months or even years.

I know that it might be cheaper to just get surplus and I know that not many do it, but I think it's rather shortsighted to say that I should just use corrosive surplus ammo (which I have no problem with, but that has been hard enough to find lately too) or that I should just rely on surplus, when in reality, we all know good things come to an end.

I really don't know where else to look than to ask on a forum, and if you have experience with substituting please let me know!

Thank you in advance!

If I understand your question, then a couple powders to look at would be HS6 or Longshot. Both have applications consistent with some of the AA powders mentioned in both 9mm and .40 cal. applications. So based on those two cartridges, I would think HS6 and Longshot would fall some where into one or two of the AA powders.

Another way to go about this would be to study some reloading data, and then make performance comparisons, then try some that exhibit simular burn rate characteristics for the cartridge you are working with.

If you are looking for powders to substitute for AA#5, AA#7 & AA#9 I have an opinion. This is just an opinion and if you look at 4 different burn rate charts you will find 4 different answers. My opinion is from using the powders.

For AA#5 try HS-6 or True Blue
For AA#7 try Longshot
For AA#9 try 2400 or Enforcer
