So what is the most accurate ammo for .22LR CMMG AR-15 conversion kit in a 1-9" twist bbl?? I've only fired Fed bulk pack ammo and it's very reliable but it's not very accurate. I understand 1-16" or 1-17" bbls are the norm for dedicated 22lr rifles. Anyone find an accurate ammo in this application?

You might try the heavier bullets, like Aguila make. However, a more practical idea might just be to try as many different Brands as you can find. Every .22 rim-fire barrel is a conundrum. Exact same maker, model, and date of manufacture rifles will like different ammo.

Also remember, these conversions aren't meant for accuracy much over 50 yards.:)

Yes, the Aguila SSS (sub sonic sniper) round should work well with that twist. It is a 60gr .22lr. Looks weird - .22 short case with a huge bullet on top to make it .22lr length.

The Aguila 60gr Sniper SubSonic may not reliably cycle the bolt. It doesn't cycle the bolt on my 10/22, although it does cycle the slide on my Ruger 22/45 pistol.

Try a 40 gr bullet. That's the next heaviest weight in .22 LR. CCI MiniMag is loaded with a 40 gr bullet. So is CCI Velocitor.

Good luck.

Aguilla SSS
(not sure if that is right, but I bought a box) it has a big projectile and should be enough for a 1/9..slow, but 50 yrds or less..

I've got a 1-9 with a CMMG conversion also. The 60 grain Aquila SSS works real well. No problems with cycling, accurate but not a very flat trajectory for firing over longer ranges. For me, the magic number seems to be 40 grains. Anything lighter (even 36 grain) starts spreading out. Both 60 & 40 grain loads seem to result in good groups.

I like CCI Velocitors, they are 40gr and accurate for 100 yards. Thats the max range I shoot .22lr (maybe a rabbit @ 115 once :))

I would look into the lines of both aguila, and cci. Aguila makes a high velocity round, in both hollow and solid, that are damn accurate. Aguila is made by/with eley products, so you know they are good. I would avoid hypervelocity, such as stingers or velocitors, if velocitors are based on the stinger case. these are notorious for battering semi auto actions to bits; so personally I would avoid them. Also a very good round, that is cheap and surprisingly accurate , is american eagles, red box, made by federal.
lemme show you these three;

golden eagle is an american made eley product as well...

these were all done, by a mod 60 with a 24x scope, at 100 yds,
sandbag rests only.

the 60 grain aguilas, if they work in your action, and they may not, can be
exceptionally accurate, or keyhole about 20 yards after leaving your bbl; you will
just have to see.

I use the 60gr Aguila SSS in my S&W 15/22 and can get 1" 3 shot groups at 50 yards.
Also with CCI subsonic HP 40gr i was able to do sub 1" 3 shot groups at 50 yards.
Ive had no issues with my 15/22 and its 1/14 twist and the SSS ammo with no key-holing at 50 yards, But i don't expect it to do well at 100 yards and possibly keyhole there due to lack of velocity at that range.
Bulk Federal works better than most other ammo thats high velocity in my gun so thats a big plus for me.

My gun being kinda similar to yours but just a dedicated .22lr ONLY is accurate with subsonic ammo. But bulk Federal will hold its own with 2" groups at 50 yards.

Just remember as i must also these type of guns arent meant as accuracy monsters. Mines shown its worthy at 50 yards and this next week it will be put on the 100 yard line and compared to my Savage 93BTV17.
I don't expect it to beat my .17HMR but ya know its fun to push a gun to its limits.
I have a few tricks up my sleeves like i ordered a brick of Aguila Match rifle subsonic 40gr ammo.

And a bullet sizer and accuriser from a guy on www.rimfirecentral.com But that is mainly for me to reload some bulk ammo into subsonic and then perfectly sizing it to Match specs. And to just size bulk ammo put nasty hollow points onto them.
Info on that just for those who haven't ever seen them.

Its just a toy and a time waster for me but should be fun and possibly help save money making my own perfectly sized subsonic ammo from cheap bulk stuff.

Dasfriek, if you are making rimfire ammo, then you are a braver man than I!!
Normally , if you have a dedicated 22/ar type, you will have better luck with accuracy, than conversion types. It does surprise me that your 1/14 is doing allright with the big Aggies. Can't wait to see those paperholes at 100 yds though...

I use a dedicated 22LR upper, however it has a 1/16 twist. All I have ever fired through it is Aguila 30gr solid point Super Maximum Velocity (I believe its 1470 fps ammo). Its very accurate to 50 yards for me using aperture open sites.
