I have not reloaded the 223 in years and that was in the late 70's. All kinds of new powders and better bullits are out there now. I will load for AR-!5.

What case preparation do you guys do for long range?

What powders--I saw the Accurate 2230 was designed for 223???

The barrel has a twist of 1:9, so what choice do I have for bullets. (jacketed)

Thanks for the help

My Service Rifle match loads are with Sierra 69 HPBT Match Kings and Varget.

I use AA2230 for most of my 55 grain and less bullets.

Others have success with other powders.

Varget, RL-15, AA2460, H4895 - 69 grains is the likely max for that twist but it's worth trying a few 75s to see if they'll stabilize - it tends to be barrel specific. Depends what you mean by long range ... some HP shooters use 69s out to 300 yds but most just use 75/77s at both 200 and 300 to minimize the required inventory. Beyond 300 pretty much everyone uses 75/77/80/82 in barrels with at least 1:8 twist, more often 1:7 or 1:7.7.

335 and 2230 are great for lighter bullets - 55 and below as noted in the post above.

Prep for me is uniform the primer pocket and deburr the inside flash hole (1st use only), decap, tumble (wet with SS media for me), resize, trim if needed, chamfer and deburr the case mouth if trimmed, tumble briefly or wipe off any lube, prime (Rem 7 1/2s, Wolf Mag SRs, Wolf or CCI milspec primers), powder, bullet - no crimping as neck tension is plenty adequate.

For target use, Nosler Custom Comp or Sierra MatchKing 69s, Hornady 68 HPBT ... these are not hunting bullets. For cheaper plinking you can often get Prvi or some milspec 62s from Wideners. To try a 75, get Hornady HPBTs or again, Prvi from Wideners.

My 1in9 twist Savage 12 FV bolt gun, shoots the 69 gr Sierra Match Kings best with Varget, then Re15.
