Active Denial System on History Channel this Monday

I can barely watch half a Future Weapons without rolling my eyes at the host.

Some of the stuff is mediocre.
Some of the stuff is crap.
Some of the stuff is great.

However, the host ruins it.

I find it VERY hard to believe that man was ever a navy SEAL. In the first episode he said that an AK-47 shoots 7.62x51 THREE times. In another episode he kept saying how the Barrett 6.8spc AR functioned JUST LIKE AN AR15. And in another one he kept saying the full auto shotgun he was firing was shooting TITANIUM buckshot because it's heavier than lead!!! I guess it's possible he was a Navy SEAL though. After all the "ex SEAL" I used to work with claimed to have a stainless steel chinese made AK47 chambered in .308 oddly it never came to the range with him.

I know this will offend some of my fellow retired LE officers and veterans. but being, or having been, A police officer, soldier, marine, seal, green beret, "Mall Ninja uberkommando," chinese tong member, or whatever does not automatically make you an EXPERT on small arms.

I knew a guy a few years ago, who was a police sergeant, and held a "Master" rating in NRA pistol bullseye competition, who didn't know that the M-14 and M-16 fired different cartridges!

I met a retired marine, 30 years service, that thought the 1903 Springfield was a .30-30.

And I've known literally DOZENS of active duty military who thought that "getting hit in the hand with a Colt .45 automatic would spin you around and throw you to the ground so hard that it would leave you unconcsious.

So much for experts!

This is nothing new!

A police officer/soldier carries a gun as a piece of equipment, like any other worked might carry a hammer, briefcase or laptop. You would hope they are proficient with what they carry but not knowing alot about firearms in general does not make them somehow a terrible cop/soldier.

Certainly its true that being a cop/soldier doesn't make you a gun expert. Thats why the host of that show has no business being the host. He is a nit wit, and I'll venture to say that at least 3 out of 5 THR members know more about guns than he does.

I think its important to remember that THR members are litteraly the most serious gun enthusiasts on the planet, and future weapons is a show designed for regular folks with a passing interest in weapons.

This one is a rerun but its still pretty awesome, as for the host they never truly show the groups he shoots, but it does seem a bit hokey at times, I would expect a former SEAL to be proficient with whatever arms he were to pick up.

I have an active denial system, its called a cat, he actively denies my requests for him to do anything useful.

Seen the show. He certainly uses his statements of being ex-SEAL to validate his weighty opinions.

He is, however, nearly unwatchable.

I heard about this guy that used to be really respected in the outdoor hunting community that didn't know that the AR-15 and Ruger Mini-14 shot the same round. :neener:

Okay that probably wasn't fair

That Barrett and the AR sure look a lot alike...

Close enough for me.

And I don't remember him specifically saying 7.62x51... I did keep saying 7.62 - I think he likes it.

Fine. He whispers well, and I'm sure that THE MAJORITY of the viewers are pretty riveted by the stuff...

NOW...

Campers, it's a good show. Even if it has technical problems, it's a good show. Why? Because it has boomsticks in it! And if it has enough ratings to be renewed, that says something - it says that a LOT of people are interested in things like boomsticks. So deal with it.

Personally, I like it. He's silly, but then again, they coulda picked someone sillier. For that matter, I think that Ermey's a little far over the top too... He's been a script reader a lot longer than he was an in-service Marine...

It's fun tho. It's all good.

Deal with it.

Care to say that to his face? Don't do it unless I'm there to see it though, I also want someone there to capture the record breaking stream of profanity.:neener:

I'm in the process of spoofing that show with a friend of mine, I just have to edit the tape. we used a real gun, and it was pretty funny.

To see the gun (spoof of the cornershot) search "****" in the rifle forum.

I understand that "random" firearms knowledge isn't required to be a SEAL, etc.

But when he gets slapped in the face by an M4 due to a utterly crap firing stance, I DO begin to question his credibility.

"The Seal" and "The Gunny" are both entertaining. I liked "The Gunny" a lot better before they clamped down hard opn his language.

I can easily understand how a SEAL or Green Beret could be a real expert on dozens of handguns and, rifle and machineguns, and not know squat about artillery, tanks and aircraft. It's all in what you use.

I have a fair working knowledge of military/LE handguns, shotguns and rifles, but I don't know squat about trap guns, skeet guns, custom bolt guns, stockmaking, engraving etc, and I really don't have any interest in learning.

These guys are entertaining, and are doing us a good service by promoting interest in small arms. Cut them some slack!:)

police officer, soldier, marine, seal, green beret, butcher,
baker and candle stick maker.

I don’t expect a baker that worked in a bakery for ten or
more years to know how to make a loaf of bread from scratch.

I have not ever known a Law enforcement or military aromorer
to know much past two dozen or so very specific things, mostly
parts exchange.

It does not mean that I don’t like pastry or the information
that they do know.

I just don’t give a lot of credence to they are/were a
(insert name).
