This gun was the first handgun I ever purchased, I got before my CCW class back when Colt and CZ cleared them out because they decided to not sell them to police departments. I believe the frame on this gun is made by Colt and the slide by CZ (I may be wrong on that). This is the CZ version of the gun, hence the name CZ 40B.

Shortly after my CCW class, I realized this was a brick of a gun to carry IWB but it was very easy to shoot controllably and the duty-sized controls were very easy to manipulate, especially in the dark. Thus this gun became my nightstand gun. After attempting to shoot a pistol one handed with a flashlight in my other hand I immediately realized just how beneficial a pistol-mounted light would be. I was working in a machine shop at the time so I went looking for a slotted scope rail that had a slightly tighter radius than the radius on the dust cover of the 40B. After a ton of reading I discovered a version of the Remington Model 700 had a round action that was just the right match the dust cover. After a few minutes on the Bridgeport I had the dust cover drilled and tapped and attached the rail with some flush-ground screws. The original intention was to mount a Streamlight TLR-3 (which fit very well), however I wanted the brightness of the TLR-1 so I swapped my TLR-3 for a TLR-1S and it fit even better (after I made a custom slot key). The light body sits about 0.02” in front of the trigger guard making the activation switch very easy to access.

This modification allowed a gun that was too large to carry to serve much better as a defensive firearm. I hope to never have to use this pistol but I plan to keep it for the long foreseeable future.
